Brightness function keys not working on my Dell XPS 17 laptop
Hi,
Brightness function keys not working on my Dell XPS 17 laptop, however volume function keys are working. Please help me out here, i am not able to adjust the brightness.
I saw a post in the forum and installed Dell Quickset, but after that even the volume function keys are not working now.
Please help, waiting for your reply.
Thanks,
Raghu.

Hi RaghavendraDell,
Please follow the link below. When the page comes up please put in the service tag of your computer.
Then go ahead and download the drivers, after selecting the operating system installed on your computer, from the link below. Install it in sequence given below the link.

Also, there are two models under Dell XPS 17 one is ‘XPS L701X’ and the other ‘XPS L702X’.If your system is ‘XPS L702X’ model to alter the settings you will have to follow the below given steps.

Hi Ravi,
I have the Dell XPX17 L702X and i'm facing exactly the same problem.
I have followed your instructions - downloaded and setup the lates BIOS and Quickset, restarted my laptop and still the monitor brightness buttons (< Fn >< F4 > and < Fn >< F5 >) do not work.
When i realised that i can't setup the brightness it was set to its maximum value somehow.
All other function buttons work properly.
Is there any other solution to this problem?
Thanks
Christos

I also have the same problem as Christos.
The brightness is maximum and very hard to work.
I have the Dell XPX17 L702X.
Your solutions / ideas would be highly appreciated.

Finally, after so much time, i have the solution (with the valuable help of an i.t. colleague).
Go to device manager, uninstall the monitor, scan for changes, install the proposed PnP Generic monitor driver.
Funcion keys F4 and F5 now work.
Then, go to Dell's Drivers & Downloads site and download/install the Dell S2230MX Monitor Driver.
Everything now is working flawlessly :-)
