Cannot dowload installation CD from downloadstore.dell.com/media

I post this message here because there is no other place it fits.

I just bought a new XPS Studio 1640 laptop (with Vista 64x).  First thing I do with all my PC, I reinstall everything from scratch.  But Dell no longer ship all required installation CD with a new PC.  I received Windows Vista, Dell Resource CD, Mcafee and MS Works, but PowerDVD, SoundBlaster X-Fi MB and Facial Recognization software are missing.  I tried to download it from downloadstore.dell.com/media but I always get an error when trying to register my PC.

Talking with tech support did not provide any answer, talking with customer service is totally useless (they can't do anything or refer to Technical support).  Is there a way to get these blasted software somewhere else because Dell is not able to provide them to me? (even if I paid for them).

Does anyone have the same problem with Dell support?

E.

If you just registered your pc it can take a few days for the system to update the records. If you bought the system form a 3rd party like Best Buy or MicroCenter  You really need to register the computer and complet the transfer of ownership.

It is not true that Dell doesn't include all the other disks that come with a new computer. Dell always includes the disks now. Some of the programs--like those you mention-- are included on the Resources disk. It is counterproductive to reinstall windows on a new computer nowadays. Those days are over. New disks are imaged, not installed and you may cause problems by reinstalling as you did in the old days of Windows. You would do well to use the PC Restore utility to restore your disk to factory settings, as long as you did not delete the Recovery Partition. Use the Boot Menu to access the Restore utility. Read the instructions at Dell Support.

Thank you! Finding your response to someone else's question has certainly saved me 3 days of spinning my wheels but not going anywhere :emotion-2: I registered my new PC at the download site but then it never went anywhere. Thanks to your post, now I know it's because I need to be more patient.

In the last 5 computers that I have bought, Inspirion 15, 3000, there are NO, repeat, NO disk drives, thereby leaving people who don't know computers in the lurch if they have a problem. Shame!
