D600: resolution of BIOS boot screen(s)
Hi,
when I got my CPiA's they had awful full size BIOS sceens for they seemed to be disigned for 640x480 resolution and the displays have 1024x768: Everything looked expanded and blurred.
After some time this was solved accidentaly by any update (probably the BIOS upgrade to A15 or could any of the W98SE updates have had an influence on that?) and the screens appeared smaller (640x480 size) in the middle of the display but looking much better.
Now I have a D600 and the same thing: The BIOS screens look blurred, texts as well as the POST bitmap.
So knowing now there is a chance to change that, what could I do to prevent the machine from displaying 640x480 BIOS contents in a higher resolution with that ugly effect?
I already downloaded the A12 BIOS upgrade but I usually don't perform careless BIOS upgrades, so I ask here.
Thank you

Thank you,
but I couldn't find any information about a shortcut [Fn + F7] for my system and nothing happens if I press it (neither during boot nor when XP is running).
So I did that upgrade to BIOS version A12 now (machine was delivered with A11) because I found this in the information file D600_A12.txt: "Fixed cosmetic BIOS Setup issue". But nothing changed...
Well I hope this doesn't sound silly, but I had the feeling with my CPiA's, that this was not solved by BIOS upgrade but any other system update (but "survived" replacing the HD with a blank one that was partitioned and formatted...).
Is there anybody with a D Series machine who solved this or didn't ever have that "problem ;-)"?
Is this perhaps only with the 1400x1050 SXGA display I have for the BIOS sceens have been disgned for the standard 1024x768 display only?

Can you read the BIOS pages???? If you can WHAT is the big deal. Just how many time do you go into the BIOS??????
Set it and forget it. It not like Dell give you a lot of options to set/change.

???????
Sounds nice, what do you want to tell me with this?
Every time I boot my machine everyone can see that something is wrong with the boot screens for logo and letters look somehow expanded and quite awfull. I had the same thing with three CPiA Latitudes and that was solved "accidentaly" by any recommended update. So I thought there might be a similar update for the D600 as well. All my machines have the company logo as boot screen and when the customer sits beside you the last thing you want your logo to be is looking awful...
As far as I remember the size of the content of the BIOS setup pages was not affected by all this - I'm only talking about the 2 machine's boot screens shown right after power on.

Thanks everybody, I found out everything:
Thanks for the advice [Fn + F7], this works with my CPiA's as I found now. And all the years I wondered which update fixed the problem - probably I just accidentaly hit that [Fn + F7] any time and that's all...
And the D600 has a BIOS Setup Menu "Video Expansion", this is for to set the BIOS screen resolution. Ed C: DELL gives an "option to set/change"...
Everything is fine now.
