DELL logo is not displayed when i boot the system
Hi,
I have Dell Laptop Inspiron 9400/E1705, the problem iam facing is, DELL logo is not displayed when i boot the system. also not able to get into BIOS options (F2).
When i tried by connecting the laptop to external crt monitor, everything works fine... iam able to see the logo and bios options.
I had a chat with dell representative, they gave me a link to update the bios, even though the same exists.
Can anybody pls help in resolving this issue....
Thanks,
Saravanan R

Try looking closely at the screen, or even use a torch on it. If you can see it then it's either the backlight (as suggested) or the inverter.

We have given you two explanations as to what your problem may be. Perhaps a little more feedback from your end might produce better results.

Hi thanks for the replies...
When i connect the laptop to external CRT monitor every thing works fine... i can able to see the DELL logo and the progression bar perfectly.
But when i try removing the external monitor and boot the laptop, the LCD screen does not show the DELL logo and the progress bar.... while booting. :(
F2 also not working to enter into the bios options.
I have also updated the ATI display driver and the BIOS version. Still the same problem exists.

You will need to elaborate further on symptoms of your problem, assume that you Can [F2] enter BIOS Setup on your external monitor? [F12] should open the option of running your Dell installed Diagnostics as well.
Do you ever see anything on your built-in screen? or is it just POST Logo and [F2] that you do not see. If nothing is ever seen, it looks like hardware failure (Diagnostics should tell) and if it is just POST Logo that is missing, this would indicate software, I am not aware of any 'warm-up' needed for a screen to display.
Hardware failure of my D800's Screen/Backlight/Inverter (all in one unit for replacement on a D800) was first seen after a normal boot-up and then after a few minutes, screen would go blank, run life could be increased a little by lower brightness setting.
Dell warranty replaced (overnighted to me) the entire unit and this failure occurred at nearly three years of age. MTBF would be much longer, my Latitude LM still has a perfect display after ten years.
My knowledge of dealing with screen failure is limited to the one above mentioned warranty replacement.
Without warranty (extended mine after that event), I might look for a replacement of JUST the Inverter or Backlight as needed for a possible cost saving measure. Screen replacement cost can easily exceed the value of the laptop, as well as the cost of an external monitor.
You need to report diagnostic problem or any othe anomaly seen on Exernal Screen.
You need also to report Anything Ever seen on LCD, even so much as a flashing cursor.
Would think that the torch/flashlite test mentioned above would point to backlight issue, if absolutely nothing is ever seen, that might indicate inverter or LCD failure, would expect that External Monitor performance would eleminate Video Driver or other software problems.
A most basic check should also be considered for use of [ Fn]/[F8] ( CRT/LCD) key combination which can be used to turn off your LCD and/or External Monitor or Projector, think that is a 'toggle' switch action, but could lead to the symptom you describe.

Hi,
I rebooted my laptop and entered into Diagnose option by pressing F12.
The test result was:
Incompatible Video Controller VESA function 0x4f02 returned ax=34f
