DVD/CD Drive not working after upgrading to Windows 7 Ultimate (Latitude D610)
HELP! I upgraded my Latitude D610 from Windows XP to Windows 7 Ultimate, but now my DVD/CD drive is no longer working. I get a message stating that the driver for video controller is not installed.but when I try to click on the option to resolve the issue, I receive a message that my video card is not compatible with this version of Windows.
Is there some way to correct this issue without having to go back to Windows XP?
Thanks for any help! I'm a novice when it comes to these kinds of hardware issues, so I don't know how to approach this issue on my own.

Welcome to the community,
We are glad that you have decided to upgrade your system to Windows 7 ultimate. However we see that your Dell Latitude D610 doesn't meet minimum requirements for Windows 7.
Please refer to link below to check if your system meets the minimum requirement for Windows 7.

You may also download and run the Windows 7 upgrade advisor and check for any hardware deficiency.

As we see that your system doesn't meet the system requirement for Windows 7 it is most likely that most of your system hardware may fail to work with this operating system.

When you installed Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit) did you install the desktop/notebook utility and the chipset drivers first? If not the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order If you cannot find Windows 7 drivers, then try using the Vista (or XP) 32-bit drivers, for Windows 7 32-bit of the Vista (or XP) 64-bit drivers for Windows 7 64-bit and install the drivers in the Compatibility mode.

Hi Lakota, I've upgraded mine to W7 Pro but before I did I upgraded memory to 2gb. If your memory is less than 2 that may be the problem. I have W7 Ultimate on my desktop it works fine with 2.5 gb. W7 also downloaded all drivers over the internet. Good luck!
