Dell E6410 with intel HG Graphics not working with Windows 7

Hello,

I have a Lattitude E6410 with Intel GMA HD graphics, I migrated from windows XP to Windows 7. the problem I have is that the main screen( laptop) is not working, (black screen) and I can only work using an external monitor. when the computer starts, you can see the Dell logo and then the Windows 7 startup animation, however once getting into the blue welcome screen you wont see anything, it goes black,  if I use the basic VGA driver, it will work, however i do not have dual screen capability. can you please let me know what is the problem?   thanks!

What did the windows 7 upgrade advisor show? Was the Intel chipset capable of running Win 7? Some older Intel chipsets cannot run win 7. You can even run the upgrade advisor now to see. You might try the Intel download site for a windows 7 update if available..

Hello Mary, thanks for the prompt response. Yes, it is capable. actually there are drivers available for download at Dell and Intel websites, the problem is that when I install them. when it reboots, i can't see anything right after the windows startup animation stops, and the blue screen welcome appear with the CTRL+ALT+DEL. it becomes black, and can only see what is happening when I connect an external monitor. this PC has a intel core I5 with 4GB memory.

This machine is supposed to be designed for Windows 7. should I reinstall windows? thanks for your reply.

Rgds,

Andres

I had the same problem. I was stuck for DAYS going back and forth with a restore point I created. Turns out the right driver is for Windows Vista (x64 in my case). Try that worked for me!

Hi,

i'm french user of E6410 laptop and i have similar problem. My computer run W7 pro 32bits, fresh install. bios is updated in A16 version.

i install SP1 and try to find others drivers missing on dell support.

i have 6 lines of devices with driver missing under : Dell wireless 5540 HSPA Mini-card ..........

have tried to install package for that but when install is finished , i've always the  GPS port not installed, the 5 other seem to be ok.

first reboot after laptop display windows 7 logo and screen become black. the only to retrieve the screen is to boot in safe mode and restore previous config.

i've found your post and perhaps is the same problem with video driver?

do you know a way to fix that?

Thank's a lot for help.

Best regards
