Dell Inspiron 1764 display color shift issue
Hi
I recently replaced the motherboard on my Dell Inspiron 1764 to resolve an issue with this laptop not powering on. While the new motherboard resolved the power issue, I am starting to notice after about 30 mins of use the colors on the display start shifting. Most noticeably, anything black shifts to blue. If I move the laptop around, or tap the side of the screen or keyboard it tends to go back to normal (all colors are accurate again, including black), but eventually the problem returns within a few mins or so. Timing of it is sporadic. I thought it was related to the ac adapter, but the issue also happens on battery power. I reseated the monitor cable to the motherboard, but it didn't help.
Any thoughts? My daughter loves the laptop and uses it for school, so I am willing to further repair it, if it makes sense $$ wise.

Hi Vikram,
I ran the color bar test and all colors show correctly.
The color shift also happened in BIOS, but I needed to shake the laptop a bit to make it happen. It was less noticeable, since there are fewer colors in BIOS.
I did not try Safe Mode, knowing it already happened in BIOS.
Interesting thing is, when I start up the laptop all colors are perfect - display is beautiful. It's not until it's on for a certain amount of time, or I move the laptop around that it starts to happen.
Thoughts??
My dad purchased the motherboard for us. I think Dell helped him with the purchase, but I'll need to ask him.

Hi Ira,
Where did you get the motherboard replaced from? You connect an external monitor with your system and check . I will also recommend you to run LCD BIST (LCD diagnostics) on your system:
Please check if the color changes when the color bars appears.
Also, observe your system in BIOS to see if you face the same issue:
Alternatively, you can also observe the system in 'Safe Mode with Networking':
Keep me posted. Please reply for any further questions.

Hi Ira,
It could be a loose connection between the LCD and the motherboard. If not, there is a possibility that the issue is with the motherboard or the video card; if your system does not have a dedicated video card, the issue can be with the motherboard. As soon as you get to know if the motherboard was purchased from Dell, please keep me posted.
