Dell Inspiron N5010 not charging
i replaced the io board that has the power, Ethernet port, esata and usb port, because i believed that the pin from the ac adapter broke off inside. battery is no good, won't hold a charge. SO when i plug in the ac adapter with battery installed, i get no led lights so i thought io board needs replacing. received the new one and i have the same problem. When i press the power button, led lights come on then turn off. Its trying to start from the battery, even if the charger is plugged in. I tried a similar charger and get the same problem. But i did try a working battery from another N5010 and it turned on with no problem. Any help or thoughts on what it could be would be appreciated.

Just to follow up, when the battery is taken out and with the ac adapter plugged in the laptop, it doesnt turn on.

sorry about that. i shouldve said the other ac adapter from the other dell n5010

Use the power adapter of the second N5010 laptop to test it on your system.Your "similar" adapter might be not Dell compatible.Dell uses a different power supply system compared to other manufacturer.

You can also test your original Dell adapter on the other system .Should the system boot press F2 and check the power adapter status in the BIOS (adapter = known/unknown) ! If the adapter is unknown battery won't be charged and CPU speed reduced.

The fact that the system is running fine on battery indicates that all parts(like memory,screen,hard drive etc) connected to the mainboard are OK.Looks like the mainboard itself is broken - just the circuitry that switches between battery and power adapter.
