Dell Latitude E4300 memory upgrade
Hi all,
I recently purchased an 8GB kit for my Latitude E4300 which was 2x4GB PC3-12800 DDR3-1600MHz non-ECC Unbuffered CL11 204-Pin SoDimm 1.35V Low Voltage sticks. But when i popped them intot he slots, the fan came on, then the computer shut off with the diagnostic LEDs indicated bad RAM or a RAM error. Now when i go onto Crucial's website they say that this is the correct max ram it supports: DDR3 PC3-12800 • CL=11 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1600 • 1.35V. So I don't understand as to why they didn't work in my machine. Anyone have any idea? Thanks!

If you got the ram from Crucial contact their Support team to return. Crucial does warn--"not to exceed manufacturer's specs." What was the original ram? Match that or use it as is until you can buy new. After all, the laptop is 7 years old. Why don't you put the money towards a new laptop?
The original dell specs say--RAM Upgradable to 4GB--although bios updates might have increased that. Check to see you have the latest and last available bios.--

Try the RAM one at a time in each socket. If one module fails to work in either socket, it's faulty -- rare, but it can happen.
If neither module works in one of the two socket, it's the socket that's bad and the mainboard will need to be replaced.
