Dell N5010 Motherboard
Hi,
It saddens me to write this but I feel I must. I have had my Dell Inspiron N5010 for about 3 years now and I loved it. I saved up for a very long time to be able to buy it while on holiday in the US. I have had no problems with it and I've recommended dell to all my friends and family.
About 2 months ago however it just upped and died on me. I have since found out that the problem is my motherboard and that I might as well replace my laptop.
The funny and sad thing though is that a friend of mine bought the exact same laptop and the exact same time and store and her motherboard crashed just a month before mine. Im sorry but that can't be a coincidence. I have done some reading and I've learned that there was a problem with the motherboards for the Dell N5010. So even if I were to replace the motherboard how would that help if it was to just do the same as the previous motherboard?
And that brings me to the sad conclusion to whether I can put my trust into Dell again or should I try another manufactures instead as this isn't a cheap purchase that can just be replaced every few months.
And I'm not trying to bad mouth Dell in any way but I feel they should take responsibility for faulty products and it shouldn't be the customer who pays, but maybe that's just me.
The support from tech I've received in the past was excellent and the service outstanding and I thank you for that. That is why it saddens me that I will have to look at other brands now.

I agree and wish I had been aware of this trend before my N5010 died yesterday. I have to try to replace the motherboard since it's my only hope of not losing a lot of important info on my laptop. I have been super busy lately and not done a good job backing up my files. But you don't spend over $700 less than 4 years ago and expect to have it just die on you one day. I agree that if this is a known problem with a specific line of laptops, they should offer a recall just like car manufacturers do. But I guess since they can't be sued being that we're not going to get physically injured from these defects, we are screwed. Never mind the financial injuries and personal loss.

Other brands break as well, what matters is what happens if they break - for one many other brands do not have next business day onsite service. I stay with Dell because of the service.
Good luck :)

Hi,
I am currently experiencing exact same problems. I am considering replacing the motherboard with a Intel chip set. But I am Not sure if this is worth spending 10k. I would like to know wat you did, and if u did replace the motherboard I would like some suggestions. Please let me know about your experience. And information is highly appreciated.
Thank you.
