Dell Vostro 1015 recovery????
HI, I have a customers Vostro with WIndows 7 ( I believe 32 bit ). The unit got a virus and the end user does not wish to recover anything so I attempted to restore the unit back to factory. I can see the partitions on the disc. When I try to recover the system as per the instructions on Dell website I do not get the menu options to recover the factory software. I can not find any way to launch the recovery partition. Does not matter it I try to get to it from the hard drive or the Windows 7 disc. I get the same menu options from both and neigther offer me a way to factory restore. Any one have an Idea on how to launch the factory restore partiton software???

Hi SERocks,
I believe you have performed the steps given below to restore the system to the factory installed state:
Restart the system and press the F8 key at the Dell logo every 2 seconds. On the ‘Advanced boot Options’ use down arrow key and select ‘Repair computer’.
The software is now installed as it was when the computer was first received.
In case you are unable launch the recovery menu options, I suspect the recovery partition is corrupted and you may have to clean install the Operating system using the discs.

Hi ,
Thank you for the reply.
I do get that option from the laptop no disc for some reason???. I am able to start that process. But now it Pops up a box System Recovery Options. It give me 2 User Names to select from, I can not enter anything, HomeGroupUser$ and Preferred Customer. Both request a password, unknown. I have tried a lynx base reset tool to try and change them, setting them to blank, but it still request a password and my effort to reset it failed. So I can proceed no farther. I need a way around or a reset tool that will work to proceed forward. I believe the recover partition is intact. User bought a new one after is became virus infected. They intern gave it to his brother and said you can have it so he is trying to get it fixed. No one can remember any of the passwords, just what a tech loves to hear. The COA is on the unit and I can install a copy, guess which version. If the factory restore is intact i would prefer to use that for a number of reasons.
Ideas on how I might get past the login request? I can not get the administrators account to appear to launch that user.
Thank you for the help,
Mark

Hi Mark,
You will be able to restore the system to the factory installed state, if the recovery partition is intact. However you should have the administrator username and password. The system will not allow restoring the system to the factory installed state without the administrator password. In case you don’t remember the only other option is to reinstall the Operating system manually.
Please click on the link below and register to download the software which was built with the system:
