Dell Webcam Central webcam issue SOLVED finally!

For all of you that are having problems with you webcam not being recognized or stopped working.....here is the solution that should work for all. All USB type devices have to be plugged in or inserted after software-not before! You have to unplug the webcam and then plug in again in order for it to be dected and installed as an "Image Device" and not an "unrecognized USB device". Follow the direction below:

I've been reading alot about Dell webcams not working properly, or even not being recognized in Device Manager. No one seems to really offer a solution either, but after much researching I've come up with a solution.

Solution #1

This often does not work, but you can give it a try first: Uninstall the device from your device manager (the icon with the question mark will probably be the webcam). After you uninstall the unrecognized device you would need to reinstall webcam from Dell's support and driver page for your particular computer. After reinstallation you would restart your computer and allow Widows to install the newly updated device drivers and it should work.

Solution #2

If the prior solution doesn't work then the next thing you'll need to do, which is pretty easy, is to take off the screen bezel (usually just two or four small screws under a piece of rubber or plastic) to get to the webcam behind the plastic bezel. You must perform this procedure while the computer is running in order for the device to be detected and installed in the proper fashion. All you do next is gently unsnap the plastic bezel trim away from the screen a section at a time. Next, once the plastic trim (bezel) is removed,  unplug the wires that are going into the webcam circuit board gently. USB type devices cannot be properly installed if they are plugged in before the software is installed or else the USB device won't install properly. This is the reason when you buy any type of USB device you must install the software then plug in or insert the USB in order for Windows to dect and install the device; the same thing applies in this scenario.....The computer must be turned on when you unplug the webcam and then plug it back in after about 10 seconds!! You can have the laptop turned off while you are taking the bezel (trim) off and unplugging the webcam plug, but turn it back on before you plug it back up and you will hear the Window's chime that it has detected a device!!!!!!!!

Good luck and I hope this helps anyone with the same problem no matter what type of Dell they may have.

Ok, I Have a little different situation with operating system, and solved problem a different way.I have a Dell Inspiron 14z with a fresh Windows 7 Home Premium disk NOT  FROM Dell ,but operating system disk ordered directly from Microsoft instead. Here's SECOND MYSTERY  SOLVED or I should say Dell  paid support solved. I have a built-in Dell Cam on the laptop that never worked until I  did this. Make sure to go to support page with your Laptop drivers by entering service Tag. Make sure you can access the recommended Chipset drivers. Now, look and see on your laptop device manager in windows to see if "Imaging devices"  is there. If NOT , then  go to the chipset drivers and uninstall them. Now, go to the Dell Driver support to download the Dell "Chipset" drivers.Follow their install prompts and install  all recommended Chipset drivers Successfully. Reboot the laptop and wholla! Go to Device manager and their should be "Integrated Webcam" under " Imageing  Devices"  Make sure to  also install Dells Webcam Central software has monitor . Built-in webcam should work now. This fix cost me $140 Bucks and many, many hours of research and support.
