Dell Xps 14 (L401x) speaker malfunctioning
Hi all
I am using my Dell Xps 14 (L401x) since march 2011 but recently my JBL speaker have started to produce crackling and unpleasant output at a slightly high volume (above 40%). Songs and audio with bass have always been a problem at full (100%) audio, but since couple of days its completely gone out of hands. :(
the only change i have done in my system is the OS. I am using Windows 8 (From 6 months) but the system had not shown any such issues within this period also.
The other thing is i am not able to find a spare (refurbished/new/pulled out) speaker set from the online parts sites and dell out of warranty service always quotes hefty repair charges ( they almost amount to cost more than the systems value itself :/)
so can anybody help me on this.. or have a work around..

Dell has really messed up with the L401x. First they partner with JBL to provide speakers which has got so many issues, and now there is parts problem. You hardly get these speakers anywhere in the market. Going by the fact that the XPS14 is not so old, Dell should have considered for accessories availability. shame on you Dell, well, you are not the first multinational company to fool Indian markets

Dell keeps blaming VLC Player volume levels for these issues, rather than accepting that there premium products suffer from poor parts quality and non availability of spares.
And even if they make this part available they are quoting unreasonable repair costs.
It'll not be a surprise to see Dell loosing it's grounds in the Indian Market.

My XPS 14 got the exact symptom a few days ago. Have you found a fix yet?

No solution. That speaker is not available anywhere (at least in India I wasn't able to find one). And Dell, as usual, weren't of much help either. I ended up buying a bluetooth speaker

I have the same problem after I upgraded to Win 10. My speakers which were running good started crackling and bass sounds pieces of glass in a cup being shaking. SOULUTION : I purchased iHome IBT16gc and paired it to my XPS. Sound is great clear and better and louder BUT MONO, no stereo effect as your built-in speakers , better than decommissioning your XPS. Peace.
