Dell power adapter LA90PM130 dimming pattern on the power cable led indicator!!!
Hello,
I have recently bought a new spare Dell power adapter LA90PM130.
I have noticed a strange behaviour when I started using it. When it is not plugged into the laptop the white led indicator on the power cable goes from bright to dim regularly within a few second in a continuous pattern. When I plug it into the laptop it stays solid.
I am a bit concerned whether it is normal with this model since I had a power adapter with blue led light and it always stayed solid blue.
Can anyone with a similar adapter shed some light, please?

Hi obyrm,
We will need to check if the AC adapter purchased is compatible with this particular laptop. Please reply us with laptop system model and the PPID/ Serial no. of the AC adapter so that I could check the compatibility.

I do not think the model number of either laptop or adapter has anything to do with this kind of issue. My laptop is Inspiron 7548, and the part number of the power supply is 0JCF3VV. My laptop is compatible with both 65w and 90w adapters.
I just want to find out whether the led indicator at the end of the adapter cable has dimming effect when it is not connected to the laptop. Because when it is connected to the laptop it is solid and charges the battery. Is dimming a kind of stand by behaviour when the adapter is not connected to the laptop? Or the adapter is simply faulty?
Thank you

Hi,
Dell Inspiron 7548 is compatible with only 65w AC-adapter. JCF3VV part number AC-adapter is not compatible with this particular model.

Could you tell me where do you get that information from?
I am pretty sure it is compatible with my laptop as the sticker on the bottom of my laptop is labelled as 3.34A / 4.62A
3.34A is for 65W adapter and 4.62A is for 90W adapter. Which means I can use minimum 65W rated adapter, so any adapter rated more than 65W can be used, in this case 90W adapter.
Back to the question!!!
All I wanted to find out whether the led brightness on the power cord fluctuates when it is not attached to the laptop. As soon as I attach it to the laptop the led glows solid white. Is it a feature of the adapter that the led glows in a stepping pattern when it is not connected to the laptop? Just to be more clear, it is the led on the power cord end. I am not talking about any led on the laptop at all. It is nothing to do with the laptop.
Could anyone with the same adapter give me any information about the led glowing pattern on the power cord end when it is not plugged into the laptop? Does the brightness of led fluctuate?
Thank you :emotion-43:

I have got in contact with the seller of this adapter. He replaced it with a new one. The new one has the same behaviour. So, I think it is how the recent version of these adapters are designed to work.
I have also read on some review sites that the adapter led shines in contact with the power outlet when connected to the laptop or smolders in standby mode. At least, that is what they claim.
I am surprised to find out that this behaviour has not been documented by Dell.
On the other hand I could be getting it totally wrong by receiving two faulty adapters :emotion-6:
