I have had the same problems with Dell over this piece of kit, however after a lot of calls to Dell I managed to convince them that this did exist & successfully ordered some. 

452-10833 1 Monitor Stand : Vesa Plate Upgrade Required to mount a non-Dell Monitor to the flat panel stand (Kit)

The 452-10833 is the dell item number.

I'm interested in knowing if you had any success also.  I've tried to work with our sales rep, but they keep insisting that this part doesn't exist.  I even told them the part number that Rich listed, but they said it didn't exist.

I'm still hoping to find a solution, through them or if I have to, I'll make an adapter plate somehow.  I think it's very unprofessional for them to refer to this part, but then make it next to impossible to order it, just so they can push customers towards buying one of their monitors instead.

I have in hand the delivery note from Dell for 5 docking stations, port replicators, keyboards, mice AND VESA adaptor plates...

The relevant line is as follows:

Item number : G999H. Description: CUS, PLT, MTG, VESA, E-FPM, 75/10 G999H

I know how hard it is to get these from Dell as it took me almost 4 hours on the phone with a sales rep to track them down.

I am currently on the phonewith Dell Parts. I had to go through Sales to get there. Sales used the 452-10833 number and sent me to parts with a different part number, G999H. Parts found it and ordered it for me. Good Luck to all with this issue.

Dell, bad boys for not placing the part on the main website. I'm quite sure that those of us on the forum string are NOT the only folks experiencing this problem.

I'm in a similar situation, except I didn't realize it wouldn't work with my monitor until after I received it.

Anyway, on the US description page it has the following information...

This stand works with industry standard VESA mounts. If your monitor does not work with the attachment plates, please use a VESA adapter plate (call or go online to order part Y009C).

This information isn't listed on the Canadian page.  I called Dell parts and was told part# Y009C was $159.  That's more than the stand!  May I ask what you guys paid for the part you ended up getting?

I found a VESA LCD mount on Monoprice for under $4

Any opinions on if this would work?  I have a Samsung 22" LCD and I purchased the E-FPM to use with my Precision M4400 and E-series port plus.

EDIT3: Wow, after 4 phone calls and many minutes on hold, tech support was able to find me a part number 330-1831.  I'm told it will be a little over $40 after shipping.  =( 

This reply is a little late but I had run into this same problem with a Samsung 23 inch LCD.

The Dell LCD Monitor stand 330-0874 requires the VESA mount kit (Y009C) from Dell to work with a non-Dell LCD monitor.

Having ordered several of these Flat Panel monitor stands, as of late 2010 they actually ship with the VESA mounting kit. I hope this helps.
