E7450 will not boot or sometimes even power on

We purchased an E7450 recently. It is having intermittent problems since day one. It will sometimes fail to boot up, or even not power on even when the battery is fully charged or plugged in. After troubleshooting various components, we realized if we remove the battery, removed the palm rest screws and reinserted the battery, it worked fine. Once we put the screws back, the laptop failed to power up.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Hi Michael,

Thank you for writing to us! I would  ask you to provide a little more information,

*Is this issue seen with battery and charger or does the system work fine when working with charger.

*Have you tried initiating dell diagnostics on the system by pressing the F12 key on system startup.

*Also confirm if any recent hardware/software changes have been done on the system .

Do reply to this post with the service tag of the system sent via private message.Awaiting your response.

Kind Regards,

Thank you for your reply.

So far this has happened with both battery and charger and on charger.  We can't run the diagnostics because the system won't even boot that far.  Once we can get it to the Dell logo and run the diagnostics, they come back with out any error.  We haven't added any hardware to it.  We use our custom image, but it has worked fine for every other laptop including a few other E7450's we have in the district.

So far we put back a couple of screws and it booted up ok.  We are going to put one screw back at a time to see where the issue originates. I'll send you a private message with the service tag number.

Thank you.

I am having the same problem. I never shut it off, but when I have to, it takes all day of trying to reboot to get it going again.

Hi Michael,

Did you ever get your issue resolved? If so, would you mind sharing? I'm having a similar problem. Laptop simply will not turn on. It's fully charged, yet when I press Power, I get a solid white light next to the power symbol for 17 seconds, then the light turns off. Nothing on the screen, no other lights, etc... Did not drop it. When I plug the power cord in, I receive no visual feedback that anything is happening. The light on the charger is on so I know that's working, and I've tried 3 different chargers. I did notice that for a fraction of a second the 'Charge' light turns on, so I slowly pulled the charger out of the charge port to find that spot that made the light turn on. If I do that, I can leave the charger like that with the light lit indefinitely, but still no power whatsoever.

I would appreciate any ideas/insight for something I could try. I'm going to remove the palm rest screws, once I figure out which ones those are.. :P

Thanks!

My relative in US bought  this machine( E7450 ultrabook ) just a few days back from a reputed online seller .Very disappointingly, the machine did not boot when he tried to check it immediately after receipt. Rubbing salt on the injury, Dell Service Centre in Gainsville, Fl, did not resolve this issue on high priority basis though it is a   brand new ultrabook in mint condition. Grateful if Dell can issue special instructions for repairing  or replacing it with a new one immediately since he is leaving US on  Tuesday.
