Green dots everywhere (m17x r4)
Hello guys,
Today, I have encountered a strange problem on my Alienware m17x-r4 (AMD 7970M gfx)
While I was playing Hearthstone, the screen suddenly went weird.
As a matter of fact, lots of strange green and purple dots/lines appeared ( http://i.imgur.com/eNQk7pb.jpg )
I then proceeded to plugging my alienware laptop on an external monitor using an HDMI cable.
The display on the external monitor was perfect.
I then proceeded in plugging my PS3 and another laptop on my alienware laptop. Both the PS3 and the other laptop were perfectly displayed on my
alienware laptop. I also tried to install/uninstall various versions of AMD drivers, did a full anti-virus and malware scan. Nothing helped.
I hope you guys can help me pinpoint the origin of the problem.
--UPDATE--
local support (Dell partners, not Dell itself) says it's a screen problem and needs to be replaced.
It's strange because I tried my PS3 on my alienware and the screen looks fine.
I don't really trust them because they are not used to alienware computers and I don't think they are really reliable.
Anyway, how can I confirm this is really a screen problem? And how much does a screen replacement from Dell cost?
I'm afraid to order a screen replacement and it would have been an inverter problem or something else.

Apparently, they tested my computer on another internal screen (directly connected to my graphics card) and the image was properly displayed. I then asked them to connect back the original screen and to make sure the cable was properly attached to the original laptop, just to make sure. Then they told me that it still didn't work, but I'm not sure, since my PS3 worked perfectly on my laptop. I don't know what to think anymore :/

If you've used a different input to the system and see a good image, it's unlikely it is an issue with the screen Further, the screen uses an LED baclight, so there's no inverter - and inverter failure would not produce the sympoms you're seeing.
It sounds like a partial failure of the video chip itself -- cards can fail such that the image on an internal screen is faulty while it's OK externally. I'd try replacing the video card before you have the screen replaced.

HDMI input yes.
I tried to lower the resolution and to completely remove the AMD before, but it didn't help.

What type of connection did you make from the PS3 to the system? HDMI input?
and
If you lower the resolution of the screen (and if possible, remove the AMD drivers and use just the generic Windows drivers), do you get a solid (if not as sharp, of course) image?

I have this problem too my screen look as you dots green and flickering everywhere, my ps4 works great and I connected an hdmi cable from hdmi out to hdmi in and works fine too the external screen works. What happens? When I change to the integrated graphics black screen come to me in bios and windows but I can hear windows startup and works I connect the hdmi out to hdmi in or external screen and just worsk good. Will be the motherboard the problem? I'm out of warranty.
