HDMI to VGA (2nd Monitor or projector)

Hi there, Please assist me here: I have a Dell XPS l501x running windows 7 professional using intel core i5 CPU, M460, at 2,53Ghz, 64 bit operating system. This machine has no VGA port as we all know. I got myself an HDMI to VGA cable and tried to use two extend monitors...i failed...nothing comes out on the second screen or projector. I then tried the USB 2.0 to VGA adapter. This sort of worked excepted the display is always extended (and never duplicated). Also, the graphics on the second screen are bad especially the fonts. Where is the problem? What can I do? Will changing to Windows Utimate solve the problem? Should I upgrade my CPU to i7? Is it the cables? Please help

You cannot use just a cable.  You must use a converter box - HDMI is digital;  VGA is analog.

A USB 2 to VGA adapter doesn't use the onboard video -- whatever you get is a function of the driver used by that device.  It's unlikely that an upgrade of the OS will change that.

Okay...thanks...but that does not help me. Is the USB 2.0 to VGA  different from a converter box? I just want to know what are my options.

Buy a laptop with a VGA port or buy a converter box. It is very simple. You are trying to make it hard.
