How to connect Dell XPS13 to External Monitor
I recently purchased a Dell XPS 13 that has USB-C output port for Display purposes. I have a Dell adapter Model DA200 6N8T2 REV A01 for connecting HDMI/VGA/USB 3/Ethernet.
When I plug it all together the monitor (Dell U2414H) states that no HDMI is connected, this works fine on previous laptop with a standard HDMI port. So not monitor or cable.
In the display setting on the XPS it recognises the second monitor and displays it's name, however I am unable to change any setting for the second display or project to it. When i try to apply the extended display settings it automatically reverts to single display or the XPS screen goes black.
I have updated video drivers and still nothing. You sure make it difficult to perform a simple task. Please advise of any suggestions as to why I still can not connect.

Hi Murph,
I spent many hours back in January dealing with this exact same issue. The HDMI ports on the U2414 monitor are for connecting your mobile devices to the monitor, not for connecting your laptop (no, it didn't make sense to me either but it's in the documentation). Theoretically, one could get an adapter to connect the Type-C USB port to the monitor using a DisplayPort cable. Surprisingly, Dell did not sell such an adapter and instead recommending buying an adapter that was no help at all (see previous comment re. HDMI). After spending quite a few hours educating various levels of Dell tech and customer service on the incompatibility of their products, I eventually gave up and shipped my two U2414 monitors back to Amazon. I would have sent back the XPS-13 except it's a great little laptop. Now just waiting for the rest of the world (or Dell) to start making external monitors with compatible Type-C ports.
Good luck!

Hi Brian....
Thanks for reply. I eventually got the Dell DA 200 adapter to work. I had to update the XPS's firmware and it works. Not 100% as it is not as smooth as it should be but at least now I have 2 monitors to work from.
Murph.

Glad you eventually made it work, Murph. I see Dell recently launched a docking device (looks like a big adapter) called the TB15 that has a full-size DisplayPort connection. It generates 180W so it's well-powered to run things like 4000K displays. It's not cheap at $300 but could solve the problem.
