Inspirion 1121 : SODIMM 4GB

Hello!

My Inspirion 1121 works fine with 2x2G RAM

i3 U330 processor supports 8G RAM (by Intel ARK)

But notebook reboots during booting Windows 7 if I install even one 4G sodimm. The "salt" is laptop turns on and begins booting. I've changed 3 different RAM modules - so a few chances they are all bad.

There is no BIOS updates to try this way.

Any suggestion? Anyone works with 8G RAM on 1121 ?

If Dell support read this forum: may be it is (un)official restriction and I have no chance ?

Grey.Leo,

Below is the memory information for this system.

Troubleshooting

  1. Memory errors on the system is signaled by a 2 beep failure code. If all memory fails the LCD does not turn on. Troubleshoot for possible memory failure by trying known good memory modules in the memory slots on the bottom of the system. As always, follow the instructions in DSN and perform all steps suggested to verify the problem.
  2. For intermittent problems, try swapping memory modules with another system and see if the problems continue.  If no swap is available, then remove one memory module at a time to see if the problems continue.  If the problem can be isolated to one module, then try testing the system repeatedly (using one of the tests mentioned above) with only the suspected problem memory module installed.

The Inspiron™ 1121 / 11z system supports dual-channel DDR3 SDRAM with memory speeds of 1333 MHz. At 1333 MHz, this memory offers a significant increase of memory performance over previous platforms.

  • The memory solution is implemented in a dual-channel configuration, allowing the system to have twice the memory bandwidth while using the same memory technology.
  • Memory modules must be installed as a perfectly matched pair to take advantage of the dual-channel memory bus. If not a matched pair, the system's memory bus operates in a single-channel configuration.
    NOTE:
    The 1333 MHz Memory on  Inspiron™ 1121 / 11z operates at 800 MHz.
  • Memory Configuration

Inspiron™ 1121 / 11z has two user-accessible SODIMM sockets, both slots can be accessed after removing the memory door. When both DIMM connectors are populated, the system has optimum dual-channel performance unless channels A and B have different amounts of memory.
