Inspiron 15 3543 No led indicators

This laptop does not have a hard drive indicator light, however it should have a power indicator light on the front right edge of the laptop. 

Thanks for the reply.  I believe the led on the front right is a charging and/or battery indicator.  The power button is on the upper right corner above the keyboard.  If I look closely there appears to be a rectangular led in the button.  It never lights up!  On a Dell Support Chat I was told that it had no led indicators.  The more I think about it the more I doubt the chat person knew what they were talking about.  I have to have some kind of power indicator. Guess I will pursue it further with Dell.

You are right, the one up front is a charging indicator. There are no other LEDs on the laptop, odd design decision but that is just how it is.

Hello, Madonna here from Sri Lanka. This is regarding my new notebook.

On the 15th of April I bought a DELL Inspiron 15 3543 (I5/5th gen./4GB/1TB/Black/15.6”) notebook.

Today only I initially charged but my Power & battery status light is not working. Why is that? (I know there are no other indicators-charging & HD)

When I’m bought it I didn’t noticed it. Can I know the reason for that?

Hi Sujatha - yesterday I bought new Inspiron 15 3543 laptop. LED of the power button is not turning up even when the laptop is switched on. Also the led of charging display which is in front side of the laptop is not turning up when the laptop is charging. Can you please tell me about the behavior of these LED? For full keypad do we have LED or not for this model?

I installed an app that provides a virtual LED in the system tray to indicate hard drive activity.  It works perfectly. Free download at  http://sourceforge.net/projects/activityindicat/

So there's not a single LED anywhere to show that the unit is powered on, not even on the power button? Is there some reason for this design decision? How is this supposed to be in the interest of users?

Thanks. Sure would be interested in the rationale behind providing no power light. And why we should need to install a third-party app to indicate hard drive activity is beyond me.

I have the same issue on my new Dell Inspiron 5459.  It only has one LED at the front left side, which can be activated to indicate HDD activity by pressing Fn + H.

Its power button with a rectangular transparent strip on it which is supposed to illuminate if there is a bulb underneath to indicate power activity.  Normally, it should stay lighted when unit is on, and blinking/breathing on sleep mode.  The higher models like Inspiron 7000 series have this same power button and is lighted, as visible on display units.  The Inspiron 5000 power button on displays (several different units), all don't have power LED light as well even if they're on for demo purposes.

I haven't opened the unit yet to see if there is an LED/bulb inside.  If there is (but I doubt), maybe its just disconnected to power source.  If there's none, a solution is to put one by getting another power button board (this part is in the service manual), though I am not sure if the one will be supplied will have a LED light... maybe if its the same part as Inspiron 7000 series then it can be purely replaceable.

The only rationale behind this I think, is it saves cost, and battery perhaps.  The only workaround is to have the CAPS LOCK key turned on and/or the keyboard backlight turned on.  However, that isn't useful in determining if the unit is only sleeping (not totally off).

DELL has no official word on why they removed such useful indicator, which is a BASIC NECESSITY for a laptop.

DELL, SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF ITSELF for not providing a power-on light for the Inspiron 5000 -- just to save a few pennies. A close friend bought this machine and you can't tell when it has finished shutting down or when you click the button to power-up whether the machine recognised the button push. Horrible design!! With dell making these kind of profit motive design decisions, maybe it's time to move on. He is very annoyed and rightly so.

If there is indeed a light bulb present under the power button, Dell needs to update the bios to activate it -- IMMEDIATELY!!!
