Inspiron 1501 won't turn on! please help
To anyone who can help,
I was on my laptop on Saturday when it suddenly turned off, I haven't been able to turn it on since, the battery's fully charged but my laptop 'hasn't recognised it' for months now, and it still won't turn on. When the AC adaptor is lugged into the wall the green light comes on, as soon as I plug it into the laptop it goes off. I'v followed the on-line help guide and removed and reseated all the necessary parts but it still won't turn on.
I'm a 3rd year university student about to write my dissertation and I now have no working computer to do it on, can anyone help please?

Remove the battery and use just the adapter. If that doesn't work and the adapter light stays on, you probably have a motherboard problem.

Thank you for the response,
I removed the battery, but when i connected the AC Adaptor the light went off again and it still won't turn on.
I'm wondering if going into PC World to see if the TechGuys can help at all, otherwise I'm going to have to buy a new laptop :(

Ok, so if that's the case would i be better off replacing the motherboard or buying a new laptop? a ballpark figure for the cost of a new motherboard would be appreciated.

If the LED on the adapter goes out when you connect it to the notebook, the mainboard is faulty.

Remove all RAM memory - then connect PS and turn it on.
If POST is alive it will flash a diagnostic code at you through the keyboard lights. (caps, num, scroll)
If nothing, there's something on the MOBO keeping even POST down
If you see the flash code, POST is alive. Reseat 1 memory module and try again. Then the other memory module.
If you have only 1 memory module, try to get a 2nd for testing and try again.
Till then i'd wait with changing MOBO's - first make sure POST and memory are ok.
POST = power on self test = NOT bios.

Just tried that, still nothing, the light on the ac adapter still goes out when I connect it to the laptop
