Inspiron 17-7779 M2 SATA or PCIe?

Question

Hi, I just got this Inspiron and want to buy and install M2 SSD, but I am not sure which SSD type it supports.

Is it only supporting SATA M2 SSD or does it support NVMe / PCIe, and which kind of NVMe / PCIe?

The system supports M.2 SATA only -- not NVMe.

M.2 NGFF (Next Generation Form Factor) 2280 I installed the  Crucial CT275MX300SSD4 M.2 Type 2280 275GB SSD without any problems. The Evo is a good option too.

Chris M, thanks for the clarification. However, a few more questions I have on fitting an M.2 SSD:

1) Is 2280 (22mm wide x 80mm long) the right 'form-factor'? I think so from pictures in the Service Manual

2) Should it have a B+M keyed connector? Again, the picture in the Service Manual looks like it should

3) Do I need to be careful about overall 'depth' to have sufficient clearance to surrounds? I know there are single/double sided forms

4) Is there a 'guide' on the Dell site for not the physical install (as in Service Manual, relatively straightforward) but software updates (e.g. mirror copy from HDD to get operating system / programs onto SSD, enabling bootup from SSD in BIOS)?

Finally, given what I think is appropriate, would these options be compatible:

1. Samsung 850 EVO M.2 SATA III SSD be appropriate (I think it meets these criteria, with only a question on depth clearance = 2.38mm)? www.samsung.com/.../

2. Crucial CT275MX300SSD4 (not available direct from Crucial strangely... not sure of depth) www.amazon.co.uk/.../ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl
