Inspiron 1750 Keyboard/Touchpad Working in BIOS Only
I need help please....It just so happens that my keyboard and touchpad stops working a yr after I got my laptop right when the warranty expired.
I have tried loading the windows disk and try to repair, uninstalled/re-installed drivers, did the "flea power" reset, and have EVEN formatted my hdd but no luck. Bsically, my keyboard only works when booting but after it loads window it stops. I can go into bios and use the keyboard arrows and any keys.
It's really irritating because I have called Dell about this situation before and they kept saying its a software issue and I'd have to pay to get it fixed because my "software warranty" has expired. It ended up working again and now it stops again and cant get it to work. All I did was shut the laptop down and the next day it wouldnt work. My laptop is just a yr old and i've had several problems already and DELL is USELESS when it comes to fixing problems.
Can anyone please help me?
BTW...I can use a usb mouse and keyboard but whats the point of having a laptop when you have to bring and extra keyboard around? Thanks in advance!

I am having the same problem.
Coworker shut down her computer and took it home. The next day the keyboard and touch pad weren't working. They both work in the BIOS and external mice and keyboards work.
I have tried to set multiple restore points. Installed an earlier version of the synaptec driver...what else can we do?

I still have the same problem...I've tried everything and even formatted my hdd and still the same. One thing I did notice was by leaving the laptop on and just putting it to sleep without shutting down or closing the screen, the monitor starts to work after a day or two but touchpad still doesnt work. Pretty useless if I cant even bring my laptop anywhere.
I'm pretty frustrated and I WILL NEVER go back to Dell again for any computer and will let my family know as well.
Please let me know if you find a solution and I will do the same if I do.

Hi, I had the same problem with an inspiraon 1750. The keyboard worked in BIOS but not when windows booted. I tried the remove battery trick, no success. I upgraded to WIndows 7 (complete new install) no success. I upgraded the BIOS, and drivers, no success.
Took the keyboard out, reseated the tiny ribbon cables for the keyboard and trackpad, and it now works! :-)

I am having the same problem with Inspiron 1750. I plugged in a usb keyboard, and now that doesn't work either. I got the bright idea of reinstalling Windows 7, bad. Now it is the part of the setup where you type a user name. Nothing! Laptop keyboard doesn't work, neither does the external keyboard. I can access the bios with either keyboard. And even more frustrating, I can boot the computer with Fedora Linux and everything seems to work normally. So my Windows install wont go past type in user name, and I CAN'T! Any help would be appreciated, no tech support, it is out of warranty.

When booting up press F8 continuously and see if you can get the boot menu. Choose Safe Mode. See if your keyboard works in safe move. If it does then go to device manager and remove the keyboard and reboot.
