Inspiron 5150 problem - Screen blinks when moving lid

Hi all:

I have been having this problem for quite a while.  When adjusting the lid of the 5150, the entire screen will blink.  Sometimes the backlight of the LCD will turn off completely, but then moving the lid gets it back on.  This seems to occur only when the computer is on for the first 15 minutes.  After it's been on for at least a 1/2 hour or so, the screen doesn't blink anymore when moving the screen.  I have also noticed this blinking occur when moving the entire computer.   I tried reseating the LCD cable, which initially appeared to cure the problem, but now it is back again.

Tech support said it is not a video card problem.  The problem occurs even before XP boots up; I've tested it and the blinking occurs even when the BIOS screen first shows up and I moved the lid.

Any ideas or solutions?

Thanks.

Something is physically cracked probably the LCD flex cable or worse the motherboard and when you flex the right way it loses video signal.

Time to Buy a new machine.

Since I have an extended warranty, I guess that is what I'll suggest Dell do; send a tech to me to replace the flex cable and anything else needing fixing.

Thanks.

Try replacing the flex cable first. It is the cheapest.
