Inspiron 6000 vs. Inspiron 9300
I purchased an Inspiron 6000, got it, and I'm unhappy with it. I do a lot of web design and graphic work, so the best possible resolution and display is crucial. With the 6000, graphics, particularly online, are fuzzy and blurry. Here are the specs of my current 6000:
- Intel® Pentium® M Processor 730 (1.60 GHz/2MB Cache/533MHz FSB)
- Display 15.4 inch UltraSharp WSXGA+ LCD Panel
- Memory 512MB Shared DDR2 SDRAM 1 Dimm
- Video Card Integrated Intel® Media Accelerator 900 Graphics
- Hard Drive 40GB Hard Drive
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Here is the potential 9300 I'd exchange for:
- Intel® Pentium® M Processor 730 (1.60 GHz/2MB Cache/533MHz FSB)
- Display 17 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife™
- Memory 1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz 2 Dimm
- Video Card 256MB NVIDA® GeForce™ Go 6800
- Hard Drive 80GB Hard Drive
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional
The difference, other than the obvious, will be that it's a $600 upgrade. On paper, that 9300 looks really nice. But, am I going in the wrong direction still? Will this solve my graphics problems? Some input on the comparison between the 2 models would be very much appreciated, before I go through the process of exchanging an online order.
I'd really like all the information I can get on the specifics as far as fuzziness and blurriness of graphics are concerned. Plus, what is everyone's thoughts on the Wide Screen displays? Is a regular display a safer bet, or does it not matter, the integrated Intel video card being my problem, not the width of the screen?

And on the same note, what's the difference between the 15.4 inch UltraSharp WUXGA LCD Panel in the 6000 and the 17 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife™ in the 9300?

There is another great option.
The Latitude D810 with the X600.

After using some of the suggestions from this message board, I can now accept what I'm seeing. I changed the 120 DPI setting to 96 DPI, and that made a huge difference. Now I guess it's a matter of how satisfied I am, and trying to predict if this is a permanent or temporary solution.

I'm happy with my new Inspiron 6000d. I went with the 128 MB ATIX300 card, 1 GB RAM, an 80 GB HDD, and the 8X DVD burner. I am not a gamer either, more a power user, so the 256 MB card wasn't on the top of my needs list.
Agreed, it is not the "top of the line" notebook, but for digital imaging, web, and email, it's fine if you get it beefed up. The 8X DVD +-R/RW drive is also a great addition. Good luck in your quest.
2 things I wish it had:
The "Stick" mouse pointer in the keyboard (Which I've discovered is not included in any Inspiron system, it's a "Latitude" thing)
A Gb Ethernet card.

Going from 512 MB to 1 G of ram made a major difference. I kind of wish I had gone with a faster processor and kept the HD smaller. Nothing that I can't live with at 1.60 GHz, but after finding I can convert an old laptop HD of mine to an external HD for $50, the extra HD space I got might not be fully utilized.
