Inspiron 9300 - getting back the partition that I deleted! (cannot restore PC by ctrl-f11)
Hi, when I first got my inspiron 9300 a couple days ago, I dislike so many uneccessary trial program pre-installed in my computer so I erased the HD.
Of course before doing that I did create a OS backup CD (through a dell utility that was installed in my new computer) so I re-installed the OS with it.
HOWEVER, while installing the OS, I deleted ALL of the partitions on my HD (including one which I later found out to be a partition storing all the factory-reset files which enabled me to restore my computer to the factory setting by pressing the ctrl-f11 key at startup) before reformatting the whole thing.
So, after I installed the OS, I found out that the CD created only contains a basic copy of Windows XP, and no other drivers or software for my inspiron. As a result, I don't have a software for my DVD Burner/Player.
Since all of the original Dell software/driver, along with windows, are saved in a partitioned HD, which I deleted, I cannot get it back. (And Dell did not include those original software/driver program on a CD for back up)
Where can I get all of those original Dell software program back? Do I call and request them? I did manage to call the technical support phone line, and the lady spent over an hour telling me to try and restart my computer and pressing the ctrl-f11 button numberous times... I did tell her that it won't work but she insisted it well, and yeah, we spent a looong time doing that and finally she's convinced it won't work and she said she's sending me the DVD software on a CD to me.
Is that all I need? software/driver for my DVD player? or do I need more for my Inspiron to funciton properly? Is there anyway to restore the part of partition that I deleted which contains the origianl Dell factory setting files??
I tried hard to explain and I hope you can understand what I mean. =)

Hi, thanks for replying.
Yup, I checked the product support download page already, and they don't have the original software package for Inspiron for downloading. They only have a few updated driver or software patches to update the outdated original software that come with the inspiron.
For example, I need the driver and software to operate my Sony Slim DVD RW/R combo, but the only downloadable file available for such device is the firm-ware update.
In another words I'm out of luck on with the Dell Product Support Download page =(

Go back to downloads and scroll down to system utitilites and check out the "Dell System Software" utility, I believe that may be what you are looking for.

If you are still in the 21 day initial trial period you can call Dell and have them send you out a new hard drive, otherwise I think you may be out of luck. Most people (I think) reformat their hard drives as soon as they get their systems and delete the extra partition. You can also have Dell send you out their system restore cd's but even having them will not restore the partition that you deleted.
Maybe someone else will jump into the conversation who knows what they are talking about.
Are you looking for the "Sonic DVD" or "powerDVD" programs that will allow you to use your DVD? If so they are also located under product support I think.

Thank you guys for replying. I just wanna give an update.
I called Dell today and they said they'll send me all of the back-up applications on CDs to me! Yay!
They warned me that I need to install the CDs one by one by myself; it's not like I can just do a system restore like other Inspiron with original partitions intact. I said that's okay, I actually prefer it that way.
I much rather build the contents of my own harddrive then having bunch of stuff installed by the factory. =)
