Inspiron E1705 OEM Battery
I purchased my Dell Inspiron E1705 back on 2006. Since then I've gone through a recall of the original battery and purchased 2 other ones because they don't last past a year and a couple of months. At a $135 a pop......they can get expensive. This time around I decided to purchase a OEM battery. The problem I'm having is when the OEM battery reaches 70%, the laptop shuts down. I have the power meter set to alarm me when it reaches 10% and shut down at 3%. I've also updated the bios. Is there something else I need to do?

Since non-Dell batteries don't communicate with the power management, just disable the shutdown feature -- it won't read the capacity from the battery anyway.

When there's the possibility to return the battery, i recommend a little bit of testing to figure out if its a "refurbished" battery - meaning one that has gone through a factory reset only. (no cell replacement).
First check battery info in the power meter in power options.
Do a simple laptop battery test with a power meter
If info looks weird and charge capacity is significantly less than specified talk to the supplier.
