Latitude D620 Battery Not Present
I have a 6 cell battery which seems to charge and power my laptop fine, as indicated by the lights on that battery. I get about an hour off it which is reasonable considering it is about 2 years old and perfectly adaquate for me. However the laptop does not seem to be able to detect the battery. It claims to be on AC power the whole time whether or not it is. When I remove the battery the battery LED on the laptop goes to red / orange to indicate that the battery is almost empty but does not give a warning message as it used to. When AC power is connected the same battery LED on the laptop flashes green / yellow periodically which is also annoying. If I go to the Power meter it says "Total battery power remaining: Unknown" and it also says that the battery is "Not Present". I have tried cleaning the contacts but this doesnt seem to have had an effect.
As this only seems to be an error with the detection of the battery and not the actually ability of the battery to power the laptop I dont really want to spend money buying a new battery but I would like to know if that would solve my problems or not.

I had the exact same problem and contacted Dell support via Chat. At first they said the problem was with the battery which are considered consumables that are only covered by a one year warranty. Mine was over a year old, so they offered to sell me a new one.
I asked to be connected to a supervisor and told them that ". . I understand that batteries wear out and can no longer take or hold a charge, which make them a consumable. But in this case, the battery is charging and holding just fine. It is just the logic on the battery that is bad. Accordingly, I maintain that a replacement is warranted."
The supervisor was very reasonable, offered me a one-time exception and sent me a new battery.

Thank you very much for your suggestion, I shall try ringing dell and see what they say. Did the replacement battery function correctly?
