Motherboard/Processor upgrade (Inspiron 15 N5040)

I am planning to upgrade my dell inspiron n5040's motherboard to support an i5 ivy or sandy-bride mobile CPU.  Any motherboards that will work in this laptop that will support a processor like that? and, will it support the power supply? and if possible, where can I buy mobile CPU's like the i5 3570M?

There isn't a board to upgrade to - the N5050 model does support newer CPUs but there's no guarantee you'll find it will fit into the system - and even if it does, by the time you buy a $200 board and spend a couple of hundred dollars on a CPU, you'll be well on your way to what a new system would cost anyway.

Sell the existing system and buy a new one.

then would a first generation i5 work in my current motherboard?

  • Intel Pentium P6200 (2.13 Ghz, 2 Threads, 3M cache)
  • Intel Pentium P6300 (2.27 Ghz, 2 Threads, 3M cache)
  • Intel Core i3-380M (2.53GHz, 2 Threads, 3M cache)
  • Intel Core i3-390M (2.66 Ghz, 2 Thread, 3M cache)
