N5010 crashing on memory upgrade

Hi,

I have an Inspiron N5010 (4GB RAM, i5) and I am upgrading the memory to 8GB (one dimm 1333 MHz) but my laptop keeps on crashing from startup and I get a blue screen just after the Dell Logo at the very first beginning,

Please advise on the procedures I should take,

PS: I have tried the same RAM on another laptop and it is working fine

Regards,

Hi Rayan,

Kindly let me know the error message for the blue screen on the computer.

Restart the computer and then check if you get the blue screen again.

Also check in safe mode (restarts the computer and tap F8 on Dell logo and select safe mode).

I recommend running diagnostics on the computer (restart the computer by holding the FN and the power button).

Awaiting your response!

Hi,

Thank you for the reply,

the message is:

"A problem has been detected & windows has been shutdown

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

If this is the first time you have seen this error restart you computer ,,,,

Technical Information:

**** STOP: 0x000 000 00A  (0x 000 000 000 000 00 28, 0x 000 000 000 000 00 02, 0x 000 000 000 000 00 00, 0x FFF FF8 000 382 E1E0"

I have also tried the safe mode on F8, and the laptop crashes while loading the files. when pressing F12 for the boot options, I chose "diagnostic" and when it reached the colors test, it asked me "Can you see colors properly (y/n)" when I pressed on "y" the laptop just died and powered off

Hope this information helps

Hi Rayan,

Try doing a BIOS update on the computer which can resolve the issue.

Below mentioned link would help you with the BIOS update on the computer:

http://dell.to/PSQskL

  • During BIOS update verify that the computer is connected to an AC Adapter.
  • Disconnect any third party peripherals connected to the computer before performing BIOS update.
  • Do not turn off the computer during the BIOS update.
  • Do not restart the computer during the BIOS update.

Note: Plug your computer to a good, working UPS before you update the BIOS. If you experience a loss of AC power or a significant voltage sag/spike during the BIOS flash, you will either have to buy a new BIOS chip or buy a new motherboard.

Also, may I know from where was the memory purchased?

Awaiting your response!

Hi Rayan,

Stop 0xA messages can also be the sign of failed memory.

Check with the old memory on the computer to see if you get the blue screen with the old memory.

Awaiting your response!

The RAMs are from TwinMOS, I have tried other RAMs on the same laptop (8GB) as well and it is working fine.

Can you please let me know if you have any ideas?

Hi Rayan,

This might be a compatibility issue with the computer. So I recommend using the memory which was shipped with the computer.
