New Dell XPS 13 Trackpad not working when plugged into AC Adapter

You would think that the AC adapter shouldn't have anything to do with the Trackpad.  Have you tried the latest Trackpad drivers and see if they have made a difference?

Please let me know if version A01 2.3.6.33 of the Trackpad drivers makes a difference.

As stated in my post I installed the new driver and the problem was still happening every time I plugged in my AC Adapter.

Then when I unplugged it, the track pad would start working perfectly, including gestures and palm rejection.

It is still happening too, I figured it would go away eventually.

Could it be the Dell Power Save feature that slows or disables the track pad somehow, or anything that changes once I plug in the AC Adapter?

I check all the settings once I do plug in the AC Adapter, but the track pad settings do not change.

You did mention that you downloaded the cypress driver. I apologized that I missed it. As a test please uninstall the cypress trackpad drivers from the system. Then test the notebook with the AC adapter and without the adapter and let me know if you still have the same problem with the Trackpad.

I uninstalled the Cypress driver, restarted the laptop and the same issues with the AC Adapter causing the trackpad to lag and stop.

However, after re-installing the latest Cypress driver, I tried plugging in the AC Adapter and changing power plans.

The trackpad seems to work a little better when in High Performance mode with the AC Adapter plugged in.

As soon as I switched back to the default DELL power plan, the mouse instantly begins to lag and stop the trackpad from working normally.

Does this mean the Dell Power Saving program is causing the trackpad to fail? Is the Dell Power Saver plan buggy?

I hope this gives you a further idea to fixing this issue. Because I really don't want a new laptop, there's no other issue with the XPS 13 and would rather fix the one I am using now, then buy a new one.

Thanks for the update.  The Dell power saving plan is a standard plan designed for notebooks.  It is configured more to save battery power than for performance.  It really depends on your usage, if you find yourself using AC power most of the time and arent concerned with battery performance, leave the power setting to High performance.  If you are concerned about battery life leave it on the Dell power plan.  

Engineering is fine tuning the driver so be sure to keep an eye open on support.dell.com for further updates.

Thanks for the reply, I'll keep my eye open for the driver update. The problem is still there with the AC Adapter,

it seems though, that when I'm on Dell power plan and power plugged in, the trackpad won't work.

On high performance it will work for a while, but once you idle and resume, the trackpad will start to lag. I can get it working by leaving my left index finger on the clicking part and my right index finger can move the cursor. That usually gets it working again, temporarily.

I am still waiting on information from engineering.  I will post any updates as soon as they become available.

I tried disabling all the startup programs as you suggested via email.

Something to note was that on the list there wasn't anything running that had Cypress mentioned in it.

I disabled everything as you said and restarted it, with the AC Adapter plugged in and it's the same issue.

The trackpad doesn't work still when the AC is plugged in, but works perfectly when I unplug the AC!

Thanks for testing.  Engineering is still investigating the trackpad. I will keep you posted when I hear of any updates.

I just wanted to chime in and say that I'm having the EXACT same problem on my brand new XPS 14Z. When the AC adapter is plugged in to the machine the track pad doesn't work properly -- the cursor jumps around or doesn't move at all. The cursor's reaction to the trackpad seems a bit random. But when the AC adapter is *not* plugged in to the machine, everything works great.

Just as an fyi, I have driver version: 15.3.11.0. It is a synaptics piece of hardware.

Even though I purchased my laptop in the US, I live in the UK. I tried plugging in the AC adapter into the wall (220V instead of 110V like the US) and the higher voltage eliminated the problem.

If I use an adapter to adjust the voltage into the adapter, then the trackpad skipping comes back.

Jason and kujitsune if possible check on the AC adapter and look for a five digit code for the part number and reply back.  Or if you prefer shoot me a private message with the service tag of the notebook and I can take a look.
