New INSPIRON 1720 - Video IN-DV

Hi Everyone,

could you help me?
I would buy an INSPIRON 1720 (building with the best graphic solutions fot editing video). My question is: Is there a "DV slot" in order to link my CAMCORDER and download the videos?
Thanks a lot for the reply.

Bye

DV usually means firewire, and yes, the 1720 has a firewire port on it.

Yes, the Inspiron 1720 does have an IEEE 1394 firewire port; however, it does not recognize my Canon DV camera.

If anyone has an answer, it would be very much appreciated...

Hi, IEEE488:

Happy Thanksgiving and thank you for responding - I was not expecting anyone to respond so quickly let alone at all.

Since my Canon DV camera (ZR850) does not have software or drivers that are Vista compatible, I must use MovieMaker.  One item of note is I have a Dell desktop machine that runs Vista Basic and has an IEEE 1394 6-pin card installed.  When connecting the camera to this machine, the camera is recognized immediately, automatically opens up MovieMaker and captures the video without issue.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Your Canon camcorder should not need any special drivers.

Are you on Windows 7?

Anyway, apparently, the Firewire driver was rewritten in Windows 7.  msdn.microsoft.com/.../gg454502.aspx

I'm running Vista Home Premium on my notebook machine - will the rewritten drivers work on Vista?
