If you purchased the ON module (optional) it allows a quick instant-on boot to Internet, email, etc. without waiting for Windows to load.

There should be an on-disc tech guide on your system.  If not, the documentation is here:

The manuals listed for the M4500 describe all the hardware features but do not give a clue what the function buttons do. I've deduced some of them but most are mysterious.

F1 with the little moon symbol: Put the laptop to sleep

F2 with the battery symbol containing a lightning bolt: No clue

F3 with the empty battery symbol: Haven't a clue

F4 with the little box symbol containing a "9": Haven't a clue

F5 with the little box symbol containing a down arrow: Scroll lock

F6 has no symbol

F7 with the letters "DCP": Haven't a clue

F8 with the monitor symbol: Toggles between single & multiple monitor display

F9 has no symbol

F10 with "SysRq": System Request

F11 with "Prnt Scrn": Print Screen

F12 with "Pause": Pause/Break

What do F2, F3, F4 and F7 do?

Fn-F2 is a toggle for battery charging. This allows you to leave the computer plugged in but disable charging.
