No bootable device found when I turned on my Dell for first time
I just got my new Dell Inspiron 17, plugged it in, and hit the power button. The Dell logo popped up, and after about 2 minutes the screen went dark. After another minute or so a message popped up saying "No bootable device found. Hit any key to reboot machine." I tried again and hit F2 to get into BIOS. Under "Fixed HDD" it is showing nothing. This is very concerning. Don't they test the computers before they ship them? I'm having a difficult time getting thru to get the help I so desperately need. Does anyone have any idea's what is happening here? Can I fix this on my own?

Hi JMoline,
Apologies for an unpleasant experience. Please share the exact system model as there are various model shipped under Inspiron 17 series. If there is nothing listed against the Fixed HDD in BIOS, it is possible that the hard drive is not connected properly or might have failed. Please run diagnostics on the system to confirm hardware functionality, here are the steps:
Please share the results, I'll be happy to assist you further.

The model is a17" Inspiron 7737.
I ran the diagnostic and got the following: "MSG: Hard Drive - Not Installed". Also, the BIOS under HDD lists nothing.
I re-seated the hard drive to make sure that wasn't the problem. No change, same problem.
I powered up the PC and held the hard drive to my ear. I could hear a gentle hum, and could also feel a slight vibration. Based on this it appears the HDD is receiving power and is actually running. However, it seems the computer is not recognizing it is there.

Hi JMoline,
It appears to be hard drive failure or connector on the motherboard has failed and hardware replacement is required. Please share the system's Service Tag and Owner's Name with me via private message (click my username and then click Send a Private Message). I'll review the details and help make arrangements for repairs.

You have the right to request a replacement system as well - rather than dealing with having a brand new system repaired, that's the better way to handle the issue.

I would prefer to have a replacement system under these circumstances. What steps do I need to take to have system replaced?
