Power light blinks/pulsates even when laptop is shut down

Ive recently bought a dell studio 1737 laptop and when I click shutdown from the start menu, the computer will shut down but the little power button in the right had side on the hinge will still pulsate. If I press and hold the power button for a few seconds its doesnt pulsate anymore, the same happens if I remove and put the battery back in. Ive updated the BIOS, and if I press the power button in the BIOS menu it shuts down properly. Any help would be much appreciated.

This is because the screen shutdown button default is Sleep not Shutdown. Windows 7 corrects this mistake, but you can change it in Power Settings. Change it to Shutdown and it will shut off normally. Look at all the Advanced settings in your power theme. You'll want to change some of the other settings--like what to do when you close the lid, when to turn off the hard drive, etc.
