Problem with installing 2 GB memory to Latitude D820

I have a Dell Latitude D820 with 2 1 GB sticks of RAM.  I have purchased a 2GB stick of RAM from Dell based on this service tag.  When I install it into the bottom memory bay, the memory snaps in place but when I try to power it on I just get flashing green lights and then powers down.  If I put the old 1 GB stick back in, the system boots up fine.  The memory has worked in other systems so I do not believe it is faulty RAM.

Any ideas why the system will not recognize this new memory?

Hi Twirtz,

Welcome to the Community. The Latitude D820 uses DDR2 memory. At 667 MHz, this memory offers a significant increase of memory performance over the D810 platform. This system supports 533 MHz as well as 667 MHz modules, but Dell only offers 667 MHz modules at the time of purchase. DDR2 memory is keyed differently from both SDRAM and DDR to prevent you from installing the wrong type of memory modules into the system. Please check if its the same speed, and if its DDR2.

Thank you
