Problems getting an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 to work
Hey everyone,
I have a Dell Vostro 3350 with Win 7, which suffered a HD failure a couple of months back, so I bought a new HD and reinstalled everything. During that process I had some problems getting the WiFi to work. It's been working fine since, but unfortunately I managed to recently uninstall the WiFi drivers by mistake and now I can't get it to work anymore when I reinstall them. The drivers install fine, no errors or any sign of problems in the Device Manager. But the are no connections available. If I run the Intel diagnostics tool it tells me that the Wireless adapter is disabled or uninstalled. It is enabled and installed. If I connect via a cable instead, everything works fine.
This is exactly the same problem I had when I reinstalled Windows. I have tried to uninstall the Bluetooth drivers, since they should be installed after the WiFi drivers. But it doesn't seem to help and they reinstall themselves as the WiFi drivers install, not sure if this could be the problem. But I am running out of ideas, surely I should be able to reinstall the WiFi drivers without having to reinstall Windows?!

Check your Zone Alarm settings. I use Windows Firewall on Vista and above systems. No need for a third party firewall.

What virus program and firewall are you using?
Can you run Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and REGISTERED OWNER and post the information back here.

I have Avira (latest version) and ZA (10.1.065.000) and just to be clear; WiFi worked fine before the drivers were unistalled and I had made no recent updates to either Avira or ZA.
I tried running the .cmd file to generate a txt file, but it didn't stop running so I just ran the systeminfo in a command prompt and that worked fine. Here's the result:

Download and install these drivers in this exact order...
Dell System Software Utility
Intel HM67 Express Chipset Family Driver
Intel Management Engine Interface Driver
Wistron USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver
After these are installed and the system is restarted, download Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000/1030, Advanced-N 6230 Driver and save it to your desktop.
Make a system restore point.
Start, control panel, device manager, right click on Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 1030, left click uninstall. Tell it to remove the software and drivers.
Restart your computer. When you login, the new hardware wizard will try to install the adapter but fail. Install the drivers you saved to your desktop.
Make sure to install Dell QuickSet Application
Try to connect. What happens?

Tried it... same thing :( ... Why is it so stupidly difficult to reinstall a WiFi driver?!? Only thing to note was that I hadn't uninstalled the Intel MyWiFi software, so when I installed the WiFi driver I got Change, Repair, Uninstall instead of a fresh install option. Maybe I should try and redo everything and first uninstall that rubbish Inte MyWiFi?

Tried the same thing, but this time I uninstalled the MyWiFi and the drivers before I started reinstalling everything. And of course; still will not work.... :emotion-9:

You need to remove the adapter to remove any settings it may have kept that was causing you not to connect. This procedure usually works. I have seen some virus programs block the connection.
download Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000/1030, Advanced-N 6230 Driverand save it to your desktop.

I did remove the adapter driver, both attempts. The second attempt I uninstalled it before I started following your instructions. Unless you mean I should physically disconnect the actual hardware. I have no virus program installed right now, so Avira is not causing it.
Is there any way of just installing the drivers without the Intel MyWiFi?
Just to clarify a bit; the R311898.exe file has both the Intel MyWiFi software integrated with the WiFi drivers.

Try this and see what happens.
Download the drivers from Intel's website. Save the drivers to your desktop.
Make a system restore point.
Uninstall the adapter in device manager. Tell it to remove the software and drivers, then restart.
Install the Intel drivers.

I tried the Intel drivers and checked the links you provided, thanks! But nothing helps, still the exact same problem. Everything installs fine, no problems in the device manager, yet the WiFi card is still missing in action. Bluetooth works fine though...
This is getting ridiculous; all I did was to uninstall the WiFi driver. Surely I shouldn't have to reinstall Windows to get this to work! :emotion-12:

Yes, it's there, no problems there.

If you are referring to System Restore; first thing I tried, but it fails complaining about a file that it cannot read.

If you are refering to WiFi security; not relevant. I can't see any connections and as I previously mentioned the Intel test program says that the WiFi card is either disabled or not properly installed. MyWifi says Adapter not found.

Try rolling back the driver?
What type of security are you using?
Start, all programs, accessories, right click on command prompt, left click run as administrator. Type
netsh winsock reset catalog
This will reset the winsock catalog
Start, control panel, network and sharing center. What do you see there? Is there a local connection and wireless?(screenshot would be nice)
Manage network connections. Remove the problem connection(s)

I can't find any adapter settings in the BIOS.
It's Fn +F2 on my laptop and yupp, I have pressed it a million times... makes no difference whatsoever...
I have checked Windows Mobility Center and no problems there. I am however missing the Network Setting that is displayed top right on the picture, when following the link...
No warranty unfortunately. The problem is exactly the same as when I reinstalled Windows. Then I gave up and reformatted the HD and installed Windows again. I don't feel like having to do this again... this is just plain silly how this works. I have found others with the same problem, but no solution as far as I know...
