Removing battery inspiron 8100

I have an inspiron 8100 & the orange battery light flashes continuosly.  I always use the a/c adapter when using my laptop.  Someone told me the battery is low & since i use the a/c adapter all the time, I should remove the battery & it would make my laptop lighter.  If this is true, how do i remove the battery? Even if i replaced the battery with a new one its like they want you take the whole computer apart just to get to the battery bay. Am i missing something in the instructions ?  Any help would be appreciated.
