Replacement battery for Inspiron 6400

Hi, I'm not from Dell this is a user to user forum, but yes you can buy batteries for the Inspiron 6400.  There is a 9 cell and 6 cell battery, the 9 cell lasts longer but is more expensive, but I think it's actually like $100 less then it was a few weeks ago because I needed a new battery and at the time the 9 cell was about $300 now it's only $200.  But either way, neither of these batteries is very good (read the reviews on the pages) and will only last a year or so, but if you need a battery there really isn't any choice, at least they are a bit cheaper now.

Only 1 year, that's a rip off, I had a Toshiba years ago and used it for ages without having any problem with the battery. 

 

I also checked that it wasn't one of those that had a recall on it and sadly it wasn't.  That would have explained a short life.

 

 

Unfortunately that is the situation with all Li-Ion rechargeable batteries.  No matter how well you take care of them and follow the instructions of when to condition them that is completely charge and discharge them.  The typical useful life of a rechargeable battery is 1-2 years sometimes people can squeeze a little more but not common.  The batteries are meant to be used and you have to do your best to try and keep them at 40% charge when not used.  The reason the batteries are so expensive is that the ones for the laptops especailly because the batteries are called "Smart" Batteries.  There is a micro processor that sends information to the computer about the battery's capacity and its health.  Unfortunately thee is no way around the lifepsan limits.
