Screen is fuzzy to some colors?

Hello! I got a new Inspiron 15 M5040 about a day ago and so far so good except for some thing kind of major.

When I'm browsing the internet or just using anything, (even my wallpaper) some colors end up looking super fuzzy and have a lot of static. Generally i wouldn't mind, but since the static moves it hurts my eyes A LOT. :s also i do a lot of work with graphic design so colors are really important but they are so darn fuzzy and static(y)?

i really like this computer but how can I fix this? I tried running the BIST (or the pre boot thing?) updating my bios like it said in the knowledge base but nothing worked. Help please!

Hi Luhan,

Welcome to the community.

This seems to be an issue with the video driver on your new laptop. I will suggest you to uninstall the current installed video driver and re install the same. Please open the link http://dell.to/IpTyKf. Enter your system's service tag (You will find the service tag on the back of your laptop) and select the operating system. Please go to "Video" and select your system's video card driver. Please save the driver on your desktop. Once the driver is saved  on your desktop, please click on "Start" and type in the search box " Device manager " and press " Enter ". Once the device manager is open, please go to "Display adapter", right click on the video driver installed and click on "Uninstall". Also check box to delete the software for the video driver. This will uninstall the video driver from your system. Please restart your system. To re install the video driver, right click on the video driver from your desktop and click on "Run as administrator" and continue with the installation. Once the installation completes, it will ask you to restart your system. Please restart the system once again and the issue should be fixed by now. Please reply back for any further assistance.

Glad to assist you!

It didn't work. I downloaded the driver that was the most up to date, was that correct? It's kind of worst than before.

Hi Luhan

I appreciate your eforts.

We need to check the system's screen at the BIOS (system setup). Please restart your system and keep tapping "F2" as soon as the Dell logo appears. Please check and let me know if the screen is fine in the BIOS(system setup) or not.

Waiting for your reply.

Glad to assist you!

if it looks ok in the bios, it is possible

before you do that have you tested with external monitor.

when you did BIST, do you mean LCDBIST, by pressing the power button and D key when turning on the laptop

you should all clear solid colors, no distortion  ,if you have this issue during the test, it is an LCD or LCD cable problem.

contact  hardware support

if this test passes and an external is ok, then factory restore

plug the monitor video cable, into one laptop video  ports, vga, dvi, hdmi and restart , windows 7 should find it automatically, you can press f/n and f8 to toggle between displays. did the lcdbist pass or fail, when you ran the preboot diagnostics , was there any errors, you see color bars during these test, were they fuzzy or distorted. have you tested the display in safemode, tap the f8 key on startup, choose safemode on the advanced options menu

Hi Luhan

I appreciate your efforts.

Request you to please add me by clicking on my ID "  DELL-Vikram M " and private message me your system's service tag, phone number, alternate contact number and the best time to reach you along with your time zone as this may lead to a part replacement on your system. Please do not worry, this will be done within warranty since you mentioned that this is a new system so it should be within warranty.

Glad to assist you!
