Screen won't start after lid has been closed

I get the same problem quite frequently. I've updated BIOS and drivers without any luck. This is *incredibly* frustrating.

Dell, can you please at least recognise the problem? Even if you're not able to provide a solution at the moment it would be good to hear something.

I'm not that sure it's the same problem, even though they seem similar.

That person seems to have problem getting out of a standby-mode. that is not quite the same as my problem. I'm having problems getting the screen turned on after the lid has been open.

 

I experienced a nearly identical problem on my 5150....system would enter standby when closing the lid, but upon resuming, everything would come back on except for the screen.  It turns out that it was related to the external mouse I was using.  If you are using an external mouse, here is the solution that worked for me:

In the device manager, under mice and pointing devices, select the external mouse.  Click the power management tab; uncheck the box for allow this device to bring the computer out of standby.

I use a Micro$oft Intellimouse Optical, and that power management option was already off.

Seems like it might have something to do with the configuration changing whilst the computer is in standby mode though. It seems to happen more frequently when I've changed between AC/battery power, or whether a mouse is plugged/unplugged during standby. I'll investigate further but:

DELL. YOU NEED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.

i've been having this problem too but ever since i turned off "turn off monitor" in my power scheme window, i don't seem to be experiencing it anymore.. i think that for me, this problem arises because when i close the lid of my computer, the monitor will shut off and after 15 min, windows will tell the monitor to shut off once again.. hence i turned the option off and ever since it's ok.. hope it will work for you guys.

I have a very similar problem. When the Inspiron 8600 is in the docking station and it goes to standby the only way I can recover is to touch the ON button, this sometimes causes real problems with imporper shutdown and could possibly lose data. The keyboard and mouse won't wake it up. It woke up on opening the cover on my first attempt at shutting the lid. Any suggestions on waking it up while in the docking station?
