Should I use balanced powe saving on AC connected?

Hello.

I was setting my power saving plans on my Inspiron 17r.

I have question.

Is there any problem when I set "Maximum Performance" next to video, wifi, java script in all plans on AC connected mode?

I see that by default in some plans there is Balanced or low performance set next to those option even on AC connected. Why is that. From my understanding laptop is not running on battery while connected to AC.

Will it change anything if I set maximum performance on "Power Saving" plan when AC is connected? Will it affect my battery, charging time?

I'm confused only because of those default settings.

Hi Hooch180,

If you select Maximum performance mode while AC adapter is connected, it would not effect the battery and it would continue to charge normally. Battery and AC adapter have different power profiles. When the AC adapter is connected and you make changes to the power plan, they are saved in AC adapter's profile and would not effect the battery. For changing the power plan options for battery, you have to disconnect the laptop from AC power supply and then make changes to the power plan. A laptop system generally has 3 different plans, displayed in the right hand side of the screen in 'Power Options'. You may find their description below :

Balanced – Automatically balances performance with energy consumption on capable hardware.
Power saver- Saves energy by reducing your computer’s performance where possible
High performance – Favors performance, but may use more energy.

As described above, the high performance plan uses more energy and the power saver plan consumes less energy at the cost of performance. You may use any of the plans based on your needs.

Hello. Thank you for your answer. But it does not answer all my questions.
When editing "Balanced" power plan I see always to choices. For AC and Battery.

My question is. Why is it set "Balanced Video quality" on AC setting. It doesn't make any sense.

Should I set in all 3 plans maximum performance for Plugged state? Why is it not like that by default?

Hi Hooch180,

The Power plans have been designed by Microsoft with those options. However, you may change them to desired values as per your convenience and it will not cause any harm to either your computer or the battery.
