Studio 1555 has power but blank screen

Hi there

My dad was recently using our Studio 1555 laptop and just browsing the web when he experienced the screen go "weird". He tried to switch the laptop off and then back one but since then all that happens is that the backlights on the keyboard come on as well as the power button, but nothing else. There is no display.

I've tried the [Fn] test by holding the Fn button while powering on the laptop. After a minute I get a set of 5 musical notes in a row that repeats 2 or 3 times, followed by a singular note 3 times, and then the muscial cycle repeats. I've pressed the N key on the keyboard but nothing happens after that, aside from the musical notes are no longer heard.

Can anyone suggest best course of action hereafter please?

Many thanks

Ben

Can you believe it. I just called Dell on the number provided and the guy walked me through a set of tests. None really worked until he got me to take out the battery, hold the power button down for half a minute, then power back on. The display fired up and away we went from there. Did diagnostics to check everything etc and it all seems fine now.

Apparently i got lucky - but he thought it's something to do with residual power in the components which caused the problem.

Hi Sujatha

Thanks for your email. I will have to check the external monitor later as I've not got the laptop to hand.

I suspect the laptop is out of warranty as we bought this from Dell about 2-3 years ago.

I am based in the UK.

Kind Regards

Ben
