Studio 1558 : Intel i7-720QM(1.6GHz) ?
I have had this laptop for just over 2 years now. I have never been entirely happy with its performance. More recently it has started freezing and getting very hot. I installed some software called coretemp and some of the cores were getting up to 100c.
I decided to reset the machine to factory condition and install all the Windows updates etc. Having done this the problems still remain.
I phoned Dell support as it is still under warranty and they are sending an engineer out. When the person phoned to schedule a time I asked what they would be doing and was quite shocked when I was told the motherboard, heatsink and fans would all be changed.
I did some research on the web and have found that it seems a lot of people had problems with this processor bach in 2010 and some also had the same replacement parts fitted.
Does this mean a different model of CPU will be fitted and if so what? Was there a major problem with a batch of these laptops and is the problem solved with all these repacement parts?

Hi Zippy42,
Welcome to the community.
I regret to hear that you are not happy with the performance of the system. Well, regarding the hardware parts being replaced, I am sure replacing the parts will take care of the issue provided hard drive passed the hardware test before the above mentioned parts were shipped. Also there is now such known issue with this partucular processor or the model of this laptop.
Please let me know in case there are any other concerns. Glad to be of assistance.

Hi Chiranjeev,
I regret I don't understand your answer. Are you saying there IS a known fault with the processor in this model or there is NOT a known issue.
What model of processor will Dell replace it with?
I have not been asked to do any hard drive test. What are you referring too?

Hi Zippy42,
Thank you for your reply.
I meant to say, "there is no* such known issue with this partucular processor or the model of this laptop."
I apologize for the typographical error.
Though I do not have the details of the dispatch however, ideally you should get the same model of processor.
Also as you have not tested the hard drive, I would suggest you to run a test by performing the following steps-
1. Shutdown the computer.
2. Press and hold the key, then press and release the power button.
3. Release the key.
The PSA diagnostics sequence begins.
After approximately 2 minutes the system produces a number of alert tones.
After the alert tones, the system produces either a series of low beeps or error codes.
4. Note the sequence of beeps or error codes.
Let me know of the findings. Glad to be of assistance.

Hi Chiranjeev,
Please have a look at these threads. How can you possibly say that there are no known issues with this model / processor.

Hi Zippy42,
Thank you for the reply. Well, you can observe the system for few days after the hardware replacement and in case you still face the same issue, you can add me as a friend and provide the service tag number of the computer via a private message. After checking the service tag number, I will let you know the next course of action.
Let me know in case there are any other concerns. Glad to be of assistance.
