Turn off keyboard backlit by default after restart

How can I have the keyboard backlight turned off by default when I turn on my computer?

I know I can turn it off on demand by + , but I have to do it every time I turn on the laptop, because by default the back light is always turned on.

I can't find such an option in BIOS. My laptop: Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720

Hi foka,

I would recommend you to update BIOS and Chipset Driver of the laptop. Please click on the link below which will take you to the driver’s website: http://dell.to/Qnizfs. Enter the Service Tag of the computer and choose the Operating System installed on the computer. Please update the latest version of BIOS available.

Please keep me posted with the result.

Thanks & Regards

foka,

Hit the Windows key and the X keys at the same time or...

Start, control panel, windows mobility center

Click on the little box in the keyboard brightness area. You should see...

You can make the settings there.

Manual key functions are F6 on some models and other models, press the Fn button and the arrow key controls the backlit keyboard functions.

Rick,

I don't have "Keyboard Backlighting" option in my "Windows mobility center" panel. Only standard options...

So I've updated my BIOS to A11 version. It didn't help. Backlit setting set with Fn+F6 was not being remembered after computer shutdown.

Then I installed QuickSet. This added new functions to Windows Mobility Center. I used keyboard backlighting function mentioned by Rick above. Strangely or not, it helped! Now, when I turn on my computer keyboard backlightning is turned off by default.

Hello Manshu,

I've updated BIOS, thank to you, but I can't find any backlight option in new BIOS (A08) and the behavior from my question hasn't changed.

My scenario:

1. Turn on the laptop

2. Turn off the backlight by +

3. Turn off the laptop

4. Close the lid

5. Open the lid

6. Turn on the laptop

7. -> the backlight is on :(
