Vostro 1500 Wireless Adapter "Not Found"

Alright everyone,

So I've searched around these forums and see a lot people with the same problem.  But here's the deal, I installed a fresh Windows XP on this Vostro, and tried to do the Install Order, with NSS and then Chipset....but once I get to wireless adapter and I go to install the drivers based on the "Service Tag" I get "The Device could not be detected, Installation Aborted".

Anybody have any suggestions on what to do with this?  I appreciate any help!  Thanks

try enabling the wifi using fn f2 first and then make sure wifi light is on. Then install the wifi drivers. That should work. Confirm whether you are installing dell or Intel driver.

Hi impactcustoms,

I appreciate your efforts in installing the updated drivers. Please download the wireless driver for Vostro 1500 from the following link:

http://dell.to/NJFTm9

Once you open the link, select Network and select the wireless card model installed on your system. Download the driver and install it.

I hope this helps

Please let us know in case of any queries. I will be glad to help.

Thanks and regards

I'm installing the Dell driver, and FN F2 didn't work...I did find the switch on the site and a button that you need a pencil to push...I don't know if there is a certain way to turn it on besides the switch....Thanks let me know if you have other information?

I have the drivers based upon the service tag downloaded already...and followed the install order of drivers, so the last to install is the "wireless drivers".  That is when I'm getting the error as stated.

I tried clicking the switch on the side for the wireless, but still no change....thanks and let me know

If the wireless switch is present the Fn F2 option wont be available.

Slide the switch to the direction where you find | symbol.

In device manager do you get any yellow ? under other devices category

Double click on the Network Controller with ? or !  (Assume it shows under Other devices?) go to Details tab -> Change the drop down to Hardware ID - Post the info given below in the box. We can find the driver based on the info.

Shows like PCI/VEN_XXXX&DEV_XXXX ...

Hi impactcustoms,

The following picture will help you in understanding the Wireless switch features:

Please check the Wireless switch LED status as well. The LED indicates the presence of a network as follows:

Flashing green — The system is searching for a signal.
Solid green — The system has detected a wireless signal and has good strength.
Solid Yellow — The system has detected a wireless signal, but it is moderate to weak in strength.
Flashing Yellow — An error has occurred while trying to detect a wireless signal.
Off — The system failed to detect a wireless signal.

If possible, I suggest that you take a screen shot of the Device Manager and paste it on the post while replying. This will help us in identifying the issue better.

Steps to go to Device Manager: Go to Start Menu, Right click on My Computer and Select Properties. Once the properties box opens, select Hardware tab and then select Device manager.

I hope this helps.

Please let me know in case of any queries.

Thanks and regards

Yea PCI\VEN_14E4DEV_43157SUBSYS-000B10287REV_01\4&AB208E&0&00E1 thanks for the help, I appreciate it.  But yes the switch is on, and it won't find the hardware so that I may install the driver that came up when I put in the service tag.

Hi impactcustoms,

This is the Dell Wireless 1395 card.

XP Drivers: www.dell.com/.../vostro-1500

Vista Drivers: www.dell.com/.../vostro-1500

After installing the drivers restart the computer. Press PrtScn and post the screenshot of your device manager, If you still face the same problem again.
