Hi MMISIEK1977,

It appears that the connection between the battery and the system is loose. I will recommend you to re seat the battery once again and make sure the battery latches are properly pushed towards left and right making sure the battery is connected firmly.

To re seat the battery:

Once the battery is detached, put it back in making sure you slide the right latch towards the left and left latch towards the right making sure the battery is connected firmly to the motherboard.

Keep me updated. Please reply for any further questions.

Thank You for quick answer

But unfortunately its not the source of the problem. When I reattach battery when AC charger is plugged - error disappears. But when I turn of the computer and reattach the charger again (I don't move laptop or battery) the error appears again and its happen only when battery is cold (I mean after I came to work or put battery away for some time in temp around 10deg). If the battery is warm I may shake my laptop, detach and attach the ac adapter and nothing happens. Similar problem appear in July at this forum and the source of the problem was battery...

Hi MMISIEK1977,

Thank you for the reply. I will recommend you to check the AC adapter type in BIOS:

  • Restart the system and keep tapping 'F2' as soon as the Dell logo appears.
  • Under 'Main', check the status of 'AC Adapter Type'.

Also, check the battery health meter:

  • Click on Windows logo on desktop.
  • Type 'Power options' in search bar above that.
  • Click on Power Options.
  • Check for the 'Battery Health Meter' among the different options on the left side of window.
  • Go to 'Battery Health' tab to check the battery health.

In case you do not find this option, install Quickset application on your system:

  • Click on the link: http://dell.to/SlPqyi
  • Click on 'Download Now'.
  • Select 'Single-file Download' and click on 'Continue'.
  • Click on 'Save' and save it to desktop.
  • Right click on it and select 'Run as administrator'.
  • Follow the on screen instructions to install the application.
  • Restart your system and check the battery health meter.

A BIOS update may also fix this issue:

Please find the link for BIOS update: http://dell.to/VaAHdX

Note: The ac adapter should be connected and the battery should be at least 10% charged. Please disconnect all the external devices connected to the system before updating the BIOS. Please save all the unsaved data as your system will restart automatically while updating the BIOS.

  • Click on the above link.
  • Click on 'Download Now'.
  • Select "Single-file Download" and click on "Continue".
  • Click on "Run" and follow the on screen instructions.

Keep me updated. Please reply for any further questions.

Hello. I've bought today 3460. It has Ubuntu preinstalled. And the first time I connected charger, I got the same problem. Reconnecting battery does not help.

AC Adapter type in BIOS is 90 W.

Advanced tab / battery health: Non-Dell battery.

How can I make a BIOS update from Ubuntu?

Thanks, Taras.

Hello!

I had the very same issue. My brand new Vostro 3460 gives me the "non-Dell Battery" error sometime, this happened also when I unpacked the laptop and plug it for the first time. The battery is plugged but not charging, so I don't think the problem to be related with bad electrical contacts.

I've also updated the bios to the latest version (A13) but the problem persists.

I found other posts on this forum about this problem, could it be some kind of Vostro 3460 bug?

Best regards,

Riccardo

Hi Riccardo,

I will recommend you to re-seat the battery on your system which may fix the issue. Here is the link for the manuals for your system: http://dell.to/QlLiij

In case the issue does not get resolved, check the battery's health in BIOS:

  • Restart your system and keep tapping 'F2' as soon as the Dell logo appears.
  • Go to 'Advanced' and check the battery health.

You can also try connecting an alternate AC Adapter and see if that makes a difference.

Keep me posted. Please reply for any further questions.

Hi Vikram,

reseat the battery fixes the issue once, but after some times the issue reappears so I have to reseat the battery and so on...

Concerning the BIOS, when the problem is present I got Battery Health: "non-Dell Battery" when everything is fine I got "This battery is performing normally".

Sometime I have this issue also with the AC adapter detached so I don't think the problem to be related to the AC adapter...

Best regards,

Riccardo

Hello,

Does anyone has clue for this issue? I bought a new vostro 3460 3 days ago and I have faced this issue for the first time today (3 days after bought). When it said "non-dell battery", I turned off the laptop took the battery out (the battery was still firmly connected to the laptop), and plugged it again into the laptop. Then I can start the laptop normally. The laptop has been on my desk since bought (I did not move it anywhere). The battery is still plugged in the laptop since bought too.

I am afraid of hitting this issue in the future (like somebody said in this thread) and more afraid that I cannot show this issue to the reseller for warranty since it does not always happen....

Regards,

Bao

Hello,

It happened again. I noticed that, when it happened, I had the charger connected to the laptop. Then I shutdown the laptop (press the power button), disconnected the charger, started the laptop again (with battery only), the laptop started normally. After the boot, I connected the charger to the laptop, the battery is correctly charged.

I hope someone could guess what's wrong based on this information.

Regards,

Bao.

Hello,

I have the same issue with my Vostro 3460.

I have contacted the Dell support center and the battery was replaced.

I have updated the BIOS to version A15.

But the issue still exists even with new battery and updated BIOS.

Please help me with resolving of that issue.

Thanks in advance.

Hello!

I got the very same issue. Dell provided me a new battery and I updated the bios as well but the problem is still here.

I would like Dell to take this issue more seriously.

Best regards,

Riccardo
