Wacom Intuos Tablets not working on a docked 8500
Before I begin, let me point out that the tablets work fine when the computer is NOT docked. For the life of me, I cannot get a Wacom Intuos tablet to work on my computer when it is in the docked state.
I have an Inspiron 8500 that has the SXGA+ screen. I also have the Dell Docking Station which has the 2 USB ports on the back and one on the side.
Basically, Windows XP is unable to track the pen location about 90% of the time. At random, I may be able to use the pen again; but then it stops tracking the cursor about 2 seconds later. I have updated the drivers and reinstalled 3 times. I have tweaked the BIOS and Wacom Tablet settings with no change in the outcome.
I have tried two different Wacom Intuos tablets. They are both 9x12 but one is a " G D " Intuos model, and the other is a " X D " Intuos2 model. Both connect via USB. The tablets are functioning just fine on other computers - even other Inspirons... just not an 8500 that is docked. I have used these tablets on a PC with dual 1600x1200 displays and it worked great across both desktop regions.
When my computer is not docked, I have tried both tablets in varying resolutions and it works great. I suspect there is an issue with the docking station itself, but I do not know how to update the docking bay or change any firmware to improve support.
Any help here (or if you have the same setup but not the same problem) would be greatly appreciated...

DonutDude-
Hate to say it, but you're . The D/Port APR's have a serious flaw w/ the USB Ports, and Dell has done nothing in the past 6 months.
You can complain (or have your IT department do it), or demand a refund on your equipment and shop elsewhere - The Dell isn't going to do it for you.
Do a search in the Port Replicator Forums for Inspiron and Latitude - You'll see what I'm talking about.
Good Luck and keep us posted.

nevermind... I guess my searching skills need to be improved...
I guess I'll just resign myself to being "screwed" yet again by another Dell APR... Oh wells. At least the DVI connection on the back is cool...
Oh well, the 5100/5150 users had it really rough... they don't even have an APR. Of course, I don't know who in the situation should be filled with envy.
Maybe if Dell dropped the price of an APR from $200 to $0.25 then we'd have less to gripe about

I searched the forums, and I didn't find too much in terms of generalized product errors for newer docking bays.
I've been throwing my 2 cents in about how poor the "prx" bays were for my Inspiron 8000s. Of course, Dell doesn't even have an APR for newer Inspirons on their website any more... which is odd. The only thing I could find was the following link, and it says that the APR is USB 2.0 compliant. Of course, the website also says this is for Dell Latitude computers...
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?TabPage=overview&sku=310-2874&c=us&l=en&cs=19&page=external
They boxed an APR that is labeled "PR01X" and "2U444 A01" with my Inspiron... and it's worked fine so far. Since I can't find anything about this particular unit on Dell's website, I was a bit stumped by what is going on. It sounds like they think Wacom tablets or their available drivers are at fault here.
Is the USB on the APR inherently flawed? I have some other USB devices (camera, mouse, etc...) devices that I've tried out... and they all work great. Even my Sanyo cell phone has hooked up without any issues... what is it in particular that is problematic?

They probably have better luck w/ the Targus USB Port Replicators. They are certainly cheaper.
Dell has the ability to make the Inspirons work w/ the D/Dock APR's. Currently, they only allow Latitude and Precisions to utilize them (via bios lockouts). It would be nice if they would at least try to see if they have the same problems. and then offer us a choice - not that I want to spend $400 for one.
I'm going to war on this one.
