Wifi not working. Already tried several things
I turned my laptop (dell inspiron 17r 5720) and the wifi is off. Usually not a problem, (press fn + f2) but today, i pressed fn + f2 and i still didn't get any wifi. The led next to pwr led, and hdd led, was on so i thought that i should have wifi.
I didn't.
I tried restarting the laptop but still no wifi.
I tried using the windows trouble shoot after right click on the (empty and with red cross over it) connection icon, but it tells me i need to connect to wifi or lan. No help there.
I tried going into control panel and finding my wifi adapter. I disabled it and re-enabled it but still no wifi.
I launched intel Pro-SET (i have some intel centrino wifi card) and tried the diagnostic tool there: I got failed test with error "Software radio is off." The troubleshooting manual said to go into control panel >> hardware and sound and manually launch the radio. Tried that, but still not wifi.
Went into BIOS to see if wifi card had been disabled, but didn't find anything and exited with discard changes.
I have no idea what else to try.

Hi JWen1234555,
Check the wireless connection in Safe mode with networking (restart the computer and tapping F8 on dell logo. Select Safemode with networking).
Also try updating the wireless drivers on the computer.
Update the wireless network drivers for the computer.
Follow the on-screen instructions to update the Wireless drivers.
If the issue persists, try updating the update the wireless router's firmware to the latest available.
For more information, I have provided a link below which can fix the issue:

Below mentioned link would also help you with the settings for wireless internet:

Please let me know if you have any other queries

it was working for the 1 1/2 months before suddenly failing so it hasn't always been failing. Only past few weeks.
I pressed f8 and f12 and got into some screen with
UEFI boot
+windows
setup
diagnostics
something else
is that the correct screen?
setup just goes into bios
i pressed diagnostic and it ran some tests and said that nothing was wrong (didn't run memory tests 30min)

Hi JWen1234555,
Let’s try few more troubleshooting steps.
Step 1: Below are the steps for last good configuration.
Boot to the Last Known-Good Configuration
Step 2: Use System Restore to Revert to a Previous State.
1) Restart the computer.
2) Tap during startup until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears.
3) Press until Repair Your Computer is highlighted, and then press .
4) In the System Recovery Options window, click to select your language, and then click Next.
5) Log in as a user with administrative rights, and click OK.
6) From the Choose a recovery tool menu, click System Restore.
7) In the System Restore window, click Next.
8) Click the Show restore points older than 5 days checkbox for a complete listing of restore points.
9) Click to select a restore point.
10)Click Next and then click Finish.
11)Click Yes in the confirmation window.
12)Click Restart after system restore successfully completes.
13)If you encounter any error messages during the restore process, follow the on-screen instructions to correct the error.
If the above steps would not work try system recovery:
Startup Repair from the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE)
To repair your computer using Startup Repair follow these steps:
2. Choose your language settings and click Next
3. Click Repair your computer
4. Choose your operating system and click Next. This should bring up System Recovery Options.
5. Click on Startup Repair
Startup Repair should now start diagnosing your system to identify the root cause of the failure. Once it has identified the root cause, it would automatically start repairing your computer.
Awaiting your response!
